A Note From Mrs. Mathe

WOW! What an amazing first week of virtual school. Although the typical sights and sounds of a first day of school weren't present, the excitement, nerves and joy were seen and heard throughout the campus. As I walked around campus on Wednesday, I heard so many warm welcomes, I saw smiles on all of our teachers faces, and I felt those nervous buttlerflies, you know the ones you get when you do something new for the first time! In some ways it felt so comforting, and in other ways it felt so unfamiliar.

We appreciate all of our families and the dedication we have seen from parents (or parent helpers) working to get everything set up just right so their children can be successful at virtual school. We understand that many of our families are juggling work, multiple children in the home, college course work and much more on top of helping our students navigate this virtual world. We admire your dedication and flexibility as we worked through some technical glitches this first week! Please know, we are here to help in anyway needed. Please reach out if we can be of any assistance to your family.

Next week begins our first full week of the school year. As these virtual learning weeks go on, we will continue to settle into these new routines and some of the challenges we faced this week will become second nature. I believe that every situation we face will either make us BITTER or BETTER. I believe that we will come out of this situation BETTER! Better students, better families, better communities and just better people.

WiFi Access Points

Conroe ISD has established WiFi access points throughout the district that are free for the community to use. To access this free WiFi, simply pull into one of the pictured parking lots and connect to the CISD guest wireless.

Technology Help

Our district has released a variety of help videos for the online tools that we are using for instruction. Please utilize these links to familiarize yourself with our district resources like Canvas, SeeSaw, and Parent Access Center.

Tech Tips for Parents/Students

Conroe ISD also has a Technology Help Desk to assist teachers, students, parents, and guardians with Canvas, Seesaw, Parent Access, or Student Access. The Help Desk is available weekdays beginning Monday, August 10, from 7:30 AM until 9:00 PM. You may reach the Help Desk by emailing help@conroeisd.net or calling 936-709-7658.

Canvas users can also click the 'Help' button prior to logging in for assistance.

All PPE has been distributed to our campus from the district. We have all necessary masks, face shields, gloves, thermometers, sneeze guards, hand sanitizer and disinfectants. The district will continue to replenish our supply of any needed PPE as requested. In addition to that, CISD has already begun e-misting our building every evening.

More information will be shared at Parent Information Night in regards to how we will utilize these tools to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

A Note from Nurse Wiles

This year, the Powell clinic will look a bit different than in years past. Because of current circumstances, we can no longer accept any medications that may mask the symptoms of Covid-19 without a current doctors order. This includes any over the counter cough and cold medications (including cough drops), Tylenol (acetaminophen), or Advil (ibuprofen), that are used to treat headaches, body aches, sore throats, or fevers. Both Tylenol and Advil can still be administered without a doctors order to treat other conditions such as painful braces, pain from a broken arm, etc. We also can not administer any nebulizer medications at this time, so please send an inhaler to substitute while at school.

For students who will have allergy or asthma medications at school, please obtain an allergy and asthma action plan from your child's doctor prior to dropping off the medication.

As a reminder, all prescription and over the counter medication must be in the original container and not be expired. Medications must be signed into the clinic by a parent or guardian. Medications should never be sent in a child's back pack to the school.

If you have medication that needs to be dropped off at school, we will begin accepting student medication during the ramp up period of August 12- September 4th, during normal school hours. When you arrive at school, please call the front office 936-709-1700 and let the receptionist know that you are here to drop off medication. One of our clinic staff will come to the car to meet you and complete the paperwork. If you are unable to deliver your child's medication during the ramp up period, the clinic will continue to receive medication throughout the year using this same process.

For the most up-to-date information regarding CISD health guidelines and FAQ, please visit the Roadmap to Reopening webpage: Health Guidance and Considerations section.

We look forward to a great year and can't wait to see everyone again.

If you have kindergarten age children or a new student who will be attending Powell next year, please register them. Kindergarten is always the most difficult grade to predict enrollment, and accurate numbers are helpful in the planning process for the coming school year.
