Reminder: No School for Students Monday!
Wow, What a Week!
It has been a very busy week here at Dyer Elementary! It was wonderful to see all the Dyer moms during Muffins for Mom! A big thank you to Heather Forthofer, Amanda Henderson, and Emily Rutgers for volunteering countless hours to create the beautiful decorations, coffee station, and photo booth! The cafeteria looked absolutely beautiful! We would also like to thank our custodians, and all of the volunteers that helped make this event a success.
On Thursday, our Chorus and Percussion Ensemble performed at the Carter Center for President and Mrs. Carter. The students and Mrs. Coulombe did an outstanding job. Everyone in attendance was singing their praises, including Mrs. Carol Boyce, Gwinnett County Board of Education member. (Please see her email to Mrs. Coulombe, and the Chorus and Percussion Ensemble below.)
From the looks of it, everyone had a blast at the Dyer Fun Run today! Thank you parents and family members for coming out to support our students! We are almost to our goal! The folks at Boosterthon have issued the students a weekend challenge. Any student who gets a $1 pledge per lap or a $30 flat donation will earn the Bonus Prize of a Bungee Rocket!
Proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward additional playground enhancements. As many of you know, Dyer recently earned the National Let’s Move Active Schools Award. The money raised from previous fundraisers helped to fund our track, and swings which were a crucial component to our earning this prestigious award. The AJC recently published this article about our school, and our fabulous PE teacher, Ms. Hewitt. Mrs. Carol Boyce also took notice of this, and wrote a lovely email to Mrs. Hewitt congratulating her on her achievements. (We’ve shared that email below as well.) Again, we thank you for your continued support of our school. We are so fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful community!
Have a fabulous Valentine’s Day weekend, and remember students have no school on Monday!
Dear Mrs. Coulombe and the Chorus and Percussion Ensemble of Dyer Elementary,
Today's concert at the Carter Center was truly a unique and beautiful event. I was honored to be invited to participate in such a moving gift for President and Mrs. Carter. All of the selections were very special and performed with great skill, heart, expertise, and emotion. Everyone in attendance genuinely appreciated experiencing this tremendous performance.
Thanks go to Mrs. Coulombe for taking the initiative to organize and orchestrate this lovely tribute to President and Mrs. Carter.
Dyer students have an outstanding opportunity working under the direction of Mrs. Coulombe who seeks unique performance experiences for them.
Thanks go to the student musicians for expertly performing selections chosen specifically for the Carter family which tapped into their passions, deeds, spirit, and history.
Thanks go to Mr. Stephen Jean for the beautiful and meaningful composition which poignantly captured the essence of President Carter's legacy.
Thanks go to Mr. Josiah Siska for his charming rendition of a very special song for all Georgians as well as being a role model for student musicians.
Thanks go to Superintendent Richard Woods for reiterating the importance of the arts in education.
Thanks go to everyone who participated in the Cuddles campaign to make the generous contribution which President Carter said would be used to eradicate the guinea worm in Africa.
Thanks go to all the support staff and parents who helped make this day a reality.
What a wonderful demonstration of how music is a magical medium which can open doors, unite people, and share visions.
All in all...a perfect day!
With my highest regards,
Carole Boyce

Hello Ms. Hewitt,
Opening the paper today and seeing the wonderful article about the tremendous opportunities you are creating for students at Dyer was a treat for me. The habits you are instilling in the lives of your students will remain with them throughout their lives demonstrating your impact for certain. You are to be commended for taking the initiative to provide positive healthy practices and leading the whole school.
Congratulations and please give my best to everyone at Dyer!
With highest regards,
Carole Boyce

Early Release & Conferences
Dear Parents,
Early Release conferences are fast approaching. Dyer students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, February 24th and Thursday, February 25th . Please be sure to note these important schedule changes.
The purpose of a parent-teacher conference is to discuss student achievement and progress. Each parent-teacher conference will last for a period of twenty minutes, and both parents are urged to attend. Please be prompt as these conferences are scheduled consecutively. If a situation arises and you are unable to attend your scheduled conference, please notify the teacher so the conference can be rescheduled.
To schedule your conferences this year, simply go to our school’s website and click on “Conferences.” There you will be able to see all teachers’ schedules and sign up for a time that best suits your schedule. Computers will be available at Dyer for you to sign-up there as well. The ability to sign up for a conference online will close on Friday, February 19th at 11:59 pm. Please contact the teacher directly to sign up after the close of online scheduling.
We look forward to seeing you during conference week.
Sincerely,
Jaime Fooks
Assistant Principal
