JANURARY 17, 2022 - MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY, NO SCHOOL
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Hidden River Families--
As we pause to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, it is always a reminder to us here at Hidden River about the many ways we can be involved in the work of creating a learning community that sees each individual as a vital part of who we are. We heard a message today in our Connection Groups that challenged us to think about this work in the following ways: (1) This work starts with building a sense of belonging, which starts with an understanding that each of us is WORTHY as an individual, and is a UNIQUE part of our community; (2) This work continues by learning about and appreciating each others' stories and perspectives; and (3) This work extends to us being brave enough to be the light (Amanda Gorman) or "being the change we want to see in the world" (Ghandi) within our overall community in the simple acts that we do each day. This view is anchored to Dr. King's assertion that "I can never be who I ought to be until you are who you ought to be, and you can never be who you ought to be until I am who I ought to be." I hope this weekend brings opportunities for students to talk with you about some of the messages they heard today.
The rest of this note will provide very important information about our upcoming student Chromebook exchange. Here is what you need to know:
*All students will be given a new school-district issued Chromebook.
*Our Chromebook exchange day is Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
*ALL students who were at school today received a hard copy of the Monroe School District's Chromebook User Agreement and Protection Form. All students are required to have this form completed, signed, and turned in to their ELA teachers by 1/19/22, to exchange their Chromebooks on 1/25/22. This form includes an option for purchasing annual Chromebook insurance, which covers damage to the current Chromebook as well as potential damage, theft, or loss to the new Chromebook.
*Anyone opting to purchase the Chromebook insurance plan needs to submit payment online through the Monroe School District. Linked here are instructions for making online payments.
*All students MUST have both their current Chromebook and their Chromebook charger to receive their new Chromebook on January 25. Please work with your student to make sure they bring both to school on that day.
Thank you all for your attention to this information. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

DOH K-12 Covid 19 Activity Guidelines
The Washington State Department of Health updated its K-12 COVID-19 Requirements, Friday, implementing increased testing for high-risk indoor sports and activities and will be required regardless of vaccination status. The following is a summary of the policy which can be found in the full K-12 Guidelines document using the link below.
Schools are required to institute screening testing protocols for all athletes, coaches, trainers, and other personnel who work with athletes in high-risk indoor sports and activities (basketball, wrestling, water polo, and indoor cheer), regardless of vaccination status.
Screening testing of participants must be performed at least 3 times per week using a molecular or antigen test.
One of the three weekly tests must be performed on all athletes, coaches, trainers, and support personnel no sooner than the day before the competition. Ideally and whenever possible, pre-competition testing should be performed the day of the event.
The other tests should be performed on a designated cadence, e.g., M/W/F, determined by the school, in coordination with local public health, to maximize assurance of safer practice and competitions.
If a molecular test is performed, the athlete does not need to quarantine while awaiting screening test results, unless they are exhibiting symptoms then they must isolate.
IMPORTANT CAR PICK-UP SAFETY REMINDER
Please remember when picking up your student to always follow the car in front of you in the pick-up line. Even though there happens to be a space up ahead of you, please be patient and do not pull out of the line to go ahead as it is an accident waiting to happen. Our para-eds are doing the best they can to keep the line moving. Let's keep everyone safe! Thank you for your attention to this matter.
HEALTH INFORMATION
Dear Hidden River Families,
On November 15, 2021, the option of Test to Stay which allows students to remain at school after exposure if they test two times during the first seven days will be in effect. If you would like your child to utilize this option, written permission will be required. Please print and complete the attached permission form and return it to your child’s school. The permission form will remain in effect for the remainder of the school year unless you choose to no longer participate in the testing program. If your child is exposed at school and we have a permission form on file, we will still contact you via phone before administering a COVID-19 test.

NEWS FROM MONROE SCHOOL DISTRICT
Renewal of School Program & Operations (SP&O) Levy
Did you know that state funding alone doesn't cover the cost of all of the
programs, services, and essential staff the Monroe School District provides for its students? We rely on funding from the local, voter-approved SP&O levy, which makes up 15% of the district's total budget. The four-year SP&O is set to expire in 2022 and Monroe School District will be asking voters this February to renew this critical levy.
