Song lyrics of "Imagine"
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Lyric Analysis of "Imagine"
The borders of countries exist in real life, but in the mind, can be omitted. Nobody has material possessions that they can call "theirs". Everything belongs to everyone, and no one is greedy or hungry for power. Its like all beings on earth are one big family. Its so pleasant to imagine everyone sharing the world instead of fighting over imaginary boundaries.
We all know that these thoughts will never be transferred to reality, so John Lennon is considered a dreamer. He knows there are many people with the same vision as his own, that dream of peace, prosperity, and equality. He hopes that someday, every single person will have that same dream, so that it will not be a dream anymore, but become a reality. There would be no separations of our countries or beliefs, and we'll live together as ONE.
"Imagine" Bias
Later, Lennon thought that the song should have been a Lennon/Ono collaboration. he got the idea from Yoko's book Grapefruit, with things like "Imagine the sky crying..." or "Imagine you're a cloud".
Few people wondered if Lennon included a message throughout the song as well. In his own video, he was dressed to look like a cowboy and Yoko Ono was dressed as an Indian squaw. This could be some kind of message about all of the cultures getting along with each other.
