Sherwood Spirit
October 2018
From Mr. Walerstein's Desk
We had a great opening day this year! The students came back energized to learn and it has created a lively learning environment at Sherwood. The teachers and I would like to thank you for attending our annual Meet the Teacher Night; this is a night that is the foundation of a strong relationship between home and school. Part of our community connection is through our Twitter and Instagram pages. Please follow us on both platforms @SESIslip.
This past month, the Sherwood Code of Conduct was reviewed with each class; Ms. Tramaglini and I visited classes during their library time. We discussed the Seven Habits of Happy Kids, and we also reviewed the expectations that are in the students' agenda books. During the month of October, students will continue to learn about the Seven Habits of Happy Kids. Habit 1: Be Proactive teaches students that they are in charge of themselves. Among the traits we teach the students:
- Take initiative
- Take responsibility for your actions
- Do the right thing even when no one is looking
- Choose your words and actions wisely
- Choose your attitudes and moods wisely
To support our 7 Habits of Happy Kids initiative, we are also making a #GoodNewsCallOfTheDay for deserving students. We are continuing to focus on the positive and when students are recognized for doing the right thing, they will come to the main office, make the call home with me, and get one of our Seven Habits t-shirts.
There are several activities coming up during the month of October. The Book Fair visits Sherwood on October 17. The following week, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week. This year's theme is "Life is Your Journey. Travel Drug Free." A pledge to be drug-free and lessons on making positive choices will be given throughout the week. Finally, on October 31, we will have 5th grade Biography Day. Further details will be sent home as we get closer to these events.
We look forward to a productive month!
Warmest Regards,
Chad Walerstein
Principal
