Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
April 13, 2017
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
This weekend is a three-day weekend and the last scheduled no-school day prior to the end of our school year. Yet, this may be the most important break for your student(s) to rest, relax and rejuvenate prior to required state testing. Included below are tips to prepare your student(s) for outstanding academic performance. We are optimistic that collective efforts between school and home will have positive results for your student(s) and the district.
At Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting, three members were given the Oath of Office to be a Board of Education member. Todd Gray was re-elected for a second three-year term. Emily Omohundro and Matt Gowin were each elected for a three-year term. Congratulations to each!
Finally, the District and Bush Elementary were pleased to host Missouri Treasurer, Eric Schmitt, as he kicked off his Central Missouri MOST 529 College Savings Plan. Information about this program is being sent home to every Kindergarten and First Grade student. Program information will be posted on the FPS web site and is available on the Missouri State Treasurer’s web site.
I trust you will have a safe and relaxing weekend. Thank you for sending great students for us to be part of their life!
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
Superintendent
MAP Testing Begins April 18
Below are the dates for State Testing for Fulton Public Schools.
***Missouri Assessment Program testing in Grades 3-8 begins on Tuesday,April 18 (English Language Arts, Math, and in grades 5 and 8 Science)
***ACT – April 19 – All Juniors – State funded
***Missouri Assessment Program EOC (End of course) – Begins week of April 25 for students in Algebra I, Biology, English II, and Government
There are some ways in which you can enhance your child’s performance:
Do:
* Encourage your child to do his/her best.
* Make sure he/she gets proper rest and nutrition during the test dates.
* Have your child wear comfortable clothing.
* Protect your child from family pressures or problems if possible during testing.
Don’t:
* Forget that emphasis on test scores can be upsetting to children.
* Try to “cram” for the exam.
* Use undue threats or promises based on the outcome of his/her results.
* Judge your child on the basis of a test score. Many factors can influence test scores, and any test only tells part of the story.
2017-18 Board of Education
Board members for Fulton Public Schools are elected by community members served by the school district. Members must meet training requirements provided by the Missouri School Boards Association. They are ultimately responsible for the success or failure of our district. At a minimum, they read no fewer than three reports each week and meet no fewer than four hours a month. They are very dedicated people.
Congratulations to incumbent Todd Gray, Emily Omohundro and Matt Gowin who are newly elected FPS Board Members! They were sworn in at the Board of Education meeting on April 12, 2017. Welcome!
