What Can You Do To Help Save Our Planet?
How Earth Day Came To Be
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd. In 1962, Gaylord Nelson thought that something should be done to protect the earth. Nelson headed to Washington D.C. trying to convince president John F. Kennedy to take a stand in environmental issues. It wasn't long before he agreed to the idea of Earth Day. Nelson says that the idea of Earth day came to him when he was giving a tour out west in the summer of 1969. Gaylord Nelson died in 2005 but Earth day still exists in his honor.
I will recycle, reuse, and reduce by:
-Turning off the lights when I am not using them
-Keeping the water off when I am brushing my teeth
-Donate/hand-me-down the clothes that don't fit me
The Recycling Process
1st- people bring their glass to recycling centers
2nd- there, the glass is sorted by color
3rd- the glass is transported to a processing facility, where it is cleaned and crushed into what is called cullet
4th- The cullet is brought to a manufacturing plant and is mixed with more sand, soda, ash, and limestone
5th- The mixture is heated in a furnace and turned into a liquid
6th- The liquid is then poured into molds and shaped into new products
