Cabinet Column - It's Time to Think About the Future

As we wrap up the 2020-21 school year, many people are looking forward to enjoying rest and relaxation after the challenges that came with education during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we reflect on all the past year, it is also important to focus on the future and all the positives we can celebrate. In this Cabinet Column, Superintendent Dr. Rupak Gandhi shares how he plans to enjoy the summer and move on from the pandemic.

Free Summer Meal Pickup Schedule

Fargo Public Schools will provide free meals for children up to age 18 in June and July 2021, thanks to expanded United States Department of Agriculture funding. Breakfast and lunch meals for seven days will be combined in a food box and distributed weekly. Daily pickup options are also available. Spring Activities Awards

The Fargo Public Schools Student Activities Department is proud to announce the following awards earned by co-curricular activities programs and students during the spring season. Davies Girls Tennis Wins EDC Championship, Kolesar Named EDC Coach of the Year

The Davies High School girls tennis team won the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) championship on May 27 at Courts Plus in Fargo. This is the team's first championship win. Coach Paul Kolesar was also named the EDC Coach of the Year. The state championship tournament will be held June 3-5 in Grand Forks.

Woodrow Wilson's Johnson to be Featured on Podcast

Woodrow Wilson High School language arts teacher Caitlin Johnson will be a guest speaker on The Write Time podcast on June 10 at 6:00 p.m. Alongside Johnson's role in the classroom, she is a Red River Valley Writing Project consultant, and she just earned a doctoral degree in adult and occupational education from North Dakota State University this spring. The Write Time podcast is hosted by award-winning author Joseph Bruchac and is produced by the National Writing Project.

Davies' Beil Named Girls Track & Field Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Davies High School Girls Track & Field Coach Rory Beil for being named the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Subway State Coach of the Year. He was awarded this honor at the state meet on May 28-29 in Bismarck. Beil is in his eighth year as head coach for the program.

North's Dobberstein Named EDC Boys Golf Coach of the Year

North High School Boys Golf Coach Mike Dobberstein has been named the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) Coach of the Year. He is now in the running for the North Dakota High School Coaches Association State Coach of the Year, which will be awarded at the state meet on June 8-9 in Bismarck. Dobberstein is in his seventh year as head coach for the North Boys Golf program.

Eagles Penny War Raises Funds for Red Nose Day

Eagles Elementary School recently held a penny war to raise funds for Red Nose Day, which is a day designated for awareness of child poverty. The class that raised the most money had the honor of picking a local organization associated with this cause. Mrs. Honl's third grade class won the challenge and chose Down Home. They had recently read a book about someone struggling with homelessness, and they loved Down Home's mission of serving people who are transitioning out of homelessness. Down home received a total of $457.50.

Summer School Registration Confirmation

Summer School for high school, middle school, and English Learner students starts on Tuesday, June 8. The Summer School Office will email a registration confirmation letter to students and parents on Friday afternoon with all class and or sports camps information. Summer School Power School access will be activated Monday, June 7. General Summer School information with dates, times and shuttle buses can be found on the FPS website.

All student-athletes must complete the following forms.

  • Annual Sports Physical
  • Concussion Management Information & Protocol Verification (completed in PowerSchool via registration forms)
  • HIPAA & Consent to Treat (completed in PowerSchool via registration forms)
  • Parent-Student Meeting (completed in PowerSchool via registration forms)

Virtual Academy Year in Review

Fargo Public Schools is celebrating all of the learning that happened in the Virtual Academy (VA) through the 2020-21 school year. Watch this video below to learn why students felt the VA was right for them, what their favorite parts were, and the lessons they learned through it all.

Virtual Academy Music Sharing Day

Virtual Academy students in kindergarten through grade five had the opportunity to express themselves and show their classmates their musical talents in a "Sharing Day." They sent videos and pictures of their performances to their teacher, Mrs. Sandra Mack. Click here to view the interactive presentation that includes all of the student submissions. School Board Schedule and Links

Regular School Board meetings occur on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are held in the Board Room at the District office building. Read the Board Briefs summarizing the May 25 regular meeting and June 1 special meeting of the Fargo School Board. For more information, visit the School Board website.

United Way School Supply Drive

The United Way of Cass Clay School Supply Drive is now accepting donations. This annual event aims to supply area schools and families with backpacks full of supplies for the upcoming school year. Community members can donate money or items now through July 23.


Families in need of school supplies can go to SCHEELS Arena to pick up backpacks and school supplies during these times:

  • Monday, August 2 from 4:30-6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 3 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 4 from 4:30-6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 5 from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Student Immunizations Walk-In Clinics

Fargo Cass Public Health will host three immunization clinics for students throughout the summer. No appointment is necessary. If you have insurance, please contact your insurance company to verify they cover immunizations at Fargo Cass Public Health and bring your insurance card with you. Immunizations are available even if you have no insurance.


What: Student Immunizations Walk-In Clinic

When: June 17, July 15, & August 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Where: Fargo Cass Public Health, 1240 25th Street South, Fargo


Immunizations are also available by appointment during regular clinic hours by calling 701.241.1383.
