NWEA and Cohort D Schedules
Later this month, all Wentworth students will take the NWEA, which is the state assessment selected by the Maine Department of Education. Tuesday, May 25 will be for Cohort A students and Thursday, May 27 for Cohort B students. Cohort C students will complete the assessment remotely.
Cohort D students will take the test on one of the above dates (based on when their full in person day is). For the other date, students come into the building following their usual schedule and will spend their day in a different space for SEL-specific activities and supervision. On your child's non-cohort day, a portion of their day in school will be with an allied arts teacher for these activities because their assigned teachers will be proctoring the assessment to the other cohort of students.
May 13, 2021
Dear Wentworth Families,
The purpose of this letter, also shared on May 3, is to inform you that your child will be taking the i-Ready Diagnostic this Spring.
What is i-Ready?
i-Ready is an online program for reading and mathematics that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction. The two tools are the i-Ready Diagnostic and the i-Ready Online Instruction.
In the 2020-2021 school year students were administered the iReady assessment during fall as part of a Scarborough Public Schools’ assessment plan. Wentworth students will take the Spring iReady Reading diagnostic and Math diagnostic between May 10-28. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning. It is not a placement test. Our teachers use the information to help them identify where to target their instruction and to measure growth.
If your child is FULLY REMOTE and therefor taking the i-Ready Diagnostic at home, here is some important information:
Please watch this 2 minute video: Introducing i-Ready at Home
Work with your child to determine a quiet, comfortable work space to take the assessment and gather the supplies needed. More information will be provided by your child’s classroom teacher in how you can partner to ensure a successful experience.
How to help your child with this assessment: help is not always helpful. Remember it is not an achievement test. Learning what your child cannot answer is as important as what they can answer. The purpose is to identify an accurate instructional level. Please do not answer questions for your child.
During the assessment, there will also be an opportunity for you or your child to re-enter a Google Meet to address technical issues. Your child’s teacher will provide you with additional information.
You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
Teachers will communicate their class' specific schedule within the test administration window. The Spring iReady window if from May 10-May 21, with make up testing extending into the following week.
Thank you for your support and partnering with us in your child's education!
