News From the Principal
Hello TES Families,
Get excited... next week our entire school community will be invited to join the "Great Kindness Challenge," established by Kids for Peace, from Jan. 25th-29th. This is our 6th year in a row of being part of this inspiring week! “The Great Kindness Challenge is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible. Using the provided kindness checklist, students accept the challenge and show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!” (thegreatkindnesschallenge.com). Families will be given the checklist closer to the start date.
Each family/student that participates will be entered into a drawing to win one of three $25 gift cards to a local restaurant!

Supplies necessary are...
A black marker (or sharpie)
white, blue and orange construction paper
patterned scrapbook paper (2 pieces- 12x12 size preferred)
scissors
glue
We look forward to connecting with one another and getting crafty! Hope to see you there!
Bringing more art and color to campus!
If you have been to the school play grounds recently you may have noticed the start of a new mural on the 3rd-5th grade playground. Mindful Murals, an innovative local company, will be completing the mural next week by adding a beautiful tree to the space. This project was chosen and paid for by the 5th grade class of 2020. Additionally, the PTO plans to work with Mindful Murals again in March to paint two colorful fitness/sensory paths on the blacktop for students and neighborhood kids to enjoy for years to come. Look for the finished products coming soon!
Public schools throughout California are required to provide information about themselves to the community in the form of an annual School Accountability Report Card (SARC). These report cards provide a variety of data to allow the public to evaluate and compare schools in several important areas:
- demographic information
- school safety and climate for learning
- academic data
- class size
- teacher and staff information
- professional development
- fiscal and expenditure data
The SARC, which follows the state's guidelines and document template, are issued each spring and focus on the previous academic year. A SARC is typically 12- 14 pages long. Hard copies of our SARC are also available in the main office. The 2019-2020 SARC will be available from https://www.sarconline.org/ after February 1, 2021. You can also access our current SARC electronically at:
https://www.sarconline.org/Sarc/Print/37683386089056?year=2018-2019
If you have any questions about our school’s SARC, please don't hesitate to contact me.
From the Office:
There has been a change in the process for determining Title I eligibility for schools this year. As mentioned before, Title I is a large funding source for us. Please fill out the LCFF form (which can be accessed through Parent Portal) so that we may recoup the greatest amount of Title I funding as possible for our school. Directly below this segment is the job aid for how to do this. Thank you!
Principal Office Hours:
In order to connect with more parents and students I hold weekly office hours. The zoom link is open between noon and 1:00 on Mondays so that you can stop in, say hello, ask a question, voice a concern, provide feedback, get help, tell me what is going well for your family, or just see a friendly face! Hope to see you there!

Our district has developed a "Parent Learning Menu" to assist parents with various needs including technology, social/emotional support, health & safety and family resources. Check out the tutorials available in several languages here:
TECH SUPPORT
View this presentation for more info on how to use your child's school issued Chromebook!
If you need assistance with your computer and or wifi/connectivity, there will be support for this. Support centers will be set up and the district will continue to provide a parent hotline for technology. The HOTLINE operates Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm (619-732-1400).
TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT CENTERS NOW OPEN FOR STUDENT DEVICE EXCHANGES
There are 4 Technology Support Centers for Families to be able exchange a broken student Chromebook. The process for families to exchange a device consists of 4 steps:
Family calls the Family Technology Support Line 619-732-1400
Support technician troubleshoots the student Chromebook
If the support tech is unable to fix the issue over the phone and determines a replacement Chromebook is required, directs the family to a Technology Support Center for exchange.
Family exchanges the student Chromebook at one of the 4 designated Technology Support Centers.

Counselor's Corner! By Elvie Plaskota, School Counselor
Early Open Often - Get the Facts - Not Our Kids - this is a very useful and important resource with statistics and guidance on keeping children safe from predators. Sometimes, the most difficult conversations are also those that are most important. This website is a great place to find support in starting difficult topics with children.
