Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 27, Issue 25, February 18, 2020
From the PFC President
Aloha,
I hope everyone had a great Presidents Day, which means we are already more than halfway through February. Things are about to kick into high gear for a lot of Thornhill activities.
I encourage everyone who can to attend the school's Family Engineering Night on Wednesday, February 26 from 5:30-7pm. It will be a fun evening of building, testing, and designing in the multi-purpose room. Everyone is invited. However, please keep in mind that this is not a drop-off-your-kids event.
The auction is getting closer, and more items will be coming up for bidding soon. If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, please visit the auction site to order and get more auction information. The date again is Saturday, March 14!
Looking a little further out...spring will be here before we know it. And along with that, we are going to hold a Spring Fling celebration in lieu of the traditional school carnival. More details will be forthcoming, but you can mark your calendars for Saturday, May 16 for the event at the school.
Mahalo,
Rex Crum

Special Deal Alert: Camp Galileo
The online auction for summer camps was a great way to earn some funds for the school while booking a great summer experience for your child. Looking for another week or more where you can do the same thing? From March 2 through April 12, Galileo will donate $25 to the Thornhill PFC for every family that enrolls at Galileo Camps. Their Oakland location is based at Chabot Elementary and is open to kids from pre-K through 10th grade. Campers unlock their inner innovator, learning to creatively solve problems, fearlessly try new things and persist in the face of challenges. New families will also get $50 off camp with code 2020SCHOOLREWARDS. Be sure to enter Thornhill Elementary as the school during checkout (in the camper info section). Scholarships are available as well. Learn more at galileo-camps.com or 800-854-3684.

Thank you — Dine Out Results from The Star
Thanks so much for coming out to The Star on Grand last week! This local restaurant generously donated 10 percent of their total from the night back to our school! A big thank you to The Star for their incredibly generous $975 donation to Thornhill PFC. This is always one of our biggest dine out nights of the year and it was great to see our school community out that night. Thanks everyone! Check the calendar for our next Dine Out nights at Red Boy Pizza and Fentons.

About the Thornhill Newsletter
The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.
Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Evie Nagy, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.
THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VP of Communications Erin Proudfoot, PFC President Rex Crum, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
