October-the Month of the Holy Rosary
The month of the Holy Rosary is October and this entire month is dedicated to the Rosary. The feast day of the Holy Rosary in particular is October 7th. The month of October is a good time to commit to praying the Rosary everyday. The Rosary will bring great peace and holiness to your life. It is a powerful instrument for conversion and is the best method of honoring Mary.
Here are just a few activities in which our school will be participating during October:
- The Kindergartners will daily practice the Hail Mary and learn, through the stories of the children of Fatima and Lourdes, that Mary intercedes for us. They will also take a tour of St. Anne's shrine in the rectory to learn more about Jesus' "Grandma", St. Anne.
- Our fourth graders do a rosary project after learning about the rosary and the mysteries. They also say the rosary together on a large rosary, with students holding the beads.
- 8th grade has traditionally gone in to the Church at least once a week in October to say a rosary together. It's such a calming and prayerful way to begin class!
- Members of our faculty and staff gather each morning before school in the chapel, all school year long, to pray a decade of the rosary.

Babysitting during Parent-Teacher Conferences
We will offer babysitting for toddlers through students in grade 3 during Parent-Teacher Conferences on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 3:15-7:15 P.M. Two or three junior high students will be available in the Jansky Learning Center to watch your children while you conference with teachers. Thank you to the junior high students who have volunteered to serve as the babysitters on those evenings!
School Uniform Reminders
- Beginning Monday, October 1, students may no longer wear regular uniform shorts. This policy also includes no shorts on dress down days from October 1 until May 1.
- Gym uniform: Jogging pants must be worn to and from school from October 1 to May 1. Gym shorts may be worn under the jogging pants.
- No show socks are not permitted.
- Please review the Uniform/Dress Code Policy on pages 25-27 of the Parent-Student Handbook.

Grades 5-6-7 Parents! You are UP!
Thank you for volunteering for playground/lunchroom supervision! We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer for the month of October for 7th grade, November for 6th Grade, and December for 5th grade, each time slot being 11:00-1:00. With the busy holiday season coming up, we wanted to give you ample time to choose days that best fit your schedule!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 7, Grade 6, Grade 5.
