Torrey Hill Intermediate School
2nd Edition for January, 2021
F2F and Blended Students Return Onsite- January 19th!
Dear Families,
As you know, learning platform applications were completed late last year. Based on the Board of Education decision on 1/11/21, we will be providing the following THREE learning platform choices to our LFCS families effective 1/19/21!
1- Face to Face (4 days per week onsite) + remote Friday instruction
2- Blended (2 days online/remote off site and 2 days online/remote onsite) + remote Friday instruction
3- Remote (4 days online/remote at home) + remote Friday instruction
By this time, you should already know which selection you have and whether or not your student will be reporting to a different teacher and/or classroom. Please contact your child's current teacher or the front office (810-591-3617) if you are still unsure of what you selected. Our teachers will be reaching out to new students who may have been added to their rosters THIS week.
Below is a video that features information about different processes and procedures.
Yours in Learning,

Important Health Screening Information
In order for our second semester to be successful, it is important that you continue to monitor your child's health using health screening questions below each morning.
If your child shows or develops any of the symptoms listed, please keep them home and allow them to attend classes remotely. Contact your child's physician if you suspect your child is symptomatic or has been exposed to COVID-19. Additionally, please notify our office of any changes in your child's health by calling (810)591-3617.
If your child has ANY ONE of these symptoms they should not attend in person:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fever of 100.4 or higher
- New loss of taste or smell
If your child has any TWO of these symptoms they should not attend in person:
- Chills/sweating
- Sore throat
- Muscle pain or body aches
- New onset of severe headache
- Diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain
- Congestion or runny nose
A NOTE FROM THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Prior to this month January 2021, we were doing routes East and West of US23 but found that most days we were traveling to the other areas to provide the students with the opportunity to come to school.
With the increase in students attending school more than one day from all areas face to face we have transitioned back to routes that we were running pre-covid. This will eliminate a driver having to cross over to the opposite area on different days. The times will hopefully become more consistent day to day with the reduced miles that need to be covered. Please be patient as we learn who will be riding, and who will not.
The routes have been updated on the Lake Fenton Website, please refer to them for the symbol, driver, and approximate time. Please understand the times will become regular as the semester continues. We are doing everything in our power to make sure your student's ride is safe. For this reason sanitizer must be used just prior to boarding the bus, masks must be worn over their nose and mouth, and we ask that they stay in their assigned seat to reduce the number of possible outcomes of transmission.
Please check the website prior to calling the transportation office. If you still have questions feel free to reach out. 810.591.2552. Thank you and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Laura O’Lewin

The following will be in effect for all learning platform options:
Students are required to wear masks during onsite school.
Students and staff will adhere to hand washing/sanitizing recommendations.
- Students will attend up to 4 days Monday through Thursday with Friday remaining an asynchronous learning day - although expectations for attendance may be increased for students requiring intervention and support.
Start and end times will not change (9:15 AM-2:55 PM).
Busses will be running all routes on all days. Please note, for blended students, there will not be social distancing available on busses. All students are still required to wear masks while on the bus.
All learning platform selections will continue for the duration of second semester -- families can choose to go fully remote for the remainder of the semester at any time. Please contact our office at (810)591-3617 to make any changes.
Pick- up procedures are adjusted for Blended students. Please watch the video above and be sure to obtain your orange car tag from the classroom bins located outside the front office.
FREE Breakfast and Lunch for All!
All students are eligible to receive free lunch and breakfast for the remainder of the school year. Students must take the entire meal. They cannot just grab a milk; the government program requires the student to take the entire meal for it to be free.
- Face to face students will receive their meals at school Monday through Thursday and may pick up meals on Friday at Lake Fenton High School.
- Blended students will receive their meals at school 2 days a week and can pick up meals at Lake Fenton High School on the 3 days they attend remotely.
- Our fully remote students may pick up meals at Lake Fenton High School daily.
We ask that you fill out the remote meal pick up form each week. The order form opens every Friday for the following week. Put a 0 for the days you will not be picking up meals.

ATTENDANCE
If a student is not in attendance for an a.m. or p.m. live teacher-led meeting, they will be marked absent. If absences occur regularly, the teacher will be required to check-in with the student at least twice per week and keep a two-way log. Families will be notified if two-way logs will be used for attendance. Keeping track of communications, via the logs, will help support student learning in lieu of the Face to Face (F2F) time. The check-in information must be logged into our student information system as part of the attendance requirement. This two-way accountability piece is put in place at the state level.
We realize there have been some issues with connectivity and are not marking students tardy or absent if the concerns are wide-spread. If your student is being marked absent often and you feel it is due to connection issues, please notify your student's teacher or call the Torrey Hill office.
