Seek God for the City
You receive this newsletter because of your interest in gospel movement and the desire to remain connected to others who are seeking transformation in our capital region. But, before a city can be transformed, those who would see it done must be changed themselves. Nothing changes us like honest, from the guts prayer. When we pray, we are hearing the word of the Lord, responding to his voice, agreeing with heaven for the kingdom of God to advance on the earth, and looking for the world around us change!
At the same time, something very fundamental is happening within me as I pray. My mind is changed, my heart is softened, and my will is strengthened. Holy Spirit is shaping in me a greater capacity to see, hear and know God as I encounter the people and the world around me. I begin seeing with God’s vision and growing in compassion for the diverse reality of the peoples in my community and city that God the Father passionately loves and for whom Jesus Christ died.
This week marks the beginning of lent, a journey of 40 days to Palm Sunday and Holy Week. It is a season to enter into stronger prayer individually and as God’s people. I want to enthusiastically, and with greatest urgency, encourage you to join me in praying in this season using Seek God for the City as a guide. You can also choose to pray in the heart of the city at Suite 2:10 (2830 G St., Sacramento) every Wednesday until April 1 from 12-1pm with others using this guide. Pray with a group at your church. Pray with your family in your neighborhood. Pray with a co-worker during break. Let’s raise the level of prayer rising to our Father and deepen the well of our own compassion for the city during this season.
