Mount Vernon High School Weekly Parent/Community Update

A Message From Mr. Will

We are through our second full week of Virtual Instruction at MVHS. It has been refreshing to be able to pop in some of our virtual classrooms and seeing the students and the lessons that our teachers are sharing on a daily/weekly basis. I have had quite a bit of dialogue with students and parents, walking through some of the challenges we anticipated would arise on this online platform and I appreciated all who are reaching out during this time. We are still providing physical copies of assignments for students who have limited/no access to data/wifi at home. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at if there are questions or concerns or call my office at 740-393-5900 ext. 5902.

We miss our students and having them in the building each day. We will work harder than ever through our current situation to provide instruction and support for each and every student.

District Closure and MVHS

With the school closure, MVHS will be closed with the exception of students needing to drop off or pick up assignments on Mondays from 11AM-12PM and 5PM-6PM. Monday will be the only day open for students to drop off/pick up assignments. Lunch/Breakfast will be served at the custodial entrance of the building each day at the scheduled time for a quick Grab and Go. Thank you for adhering to these schedules.

Knox Counts

Please see the message below from our State Superintendent of Schools on the importance of the census and what it provides our state, Knox County and the opportunities that it can create for our community!

We are going to provide some brief tutorials for our parents to help them understand the online educational tools our students are using on a daily basis.

MVHS Athletics/Activities

SUSPENDING all athletic events, activities, lifting, pictures, banquets, and practices through April 5th, 2020.

We realize this is an unusual and difficult situation we are facing, but it is important that we abide by the recommendation of the medical professionals and governor to help mitigate any potential spread of this virus here in our community and with our students and families.

It is our intention, that once these orders are lifted, and there is a return to school, we do everything in our power to try to salvage a spring sports season. It might be modified, but try to have a season. We obviously will be monitoring the decisions by the state and by the Ohio High School Athletic Association in guiding these decisions.

Food Distribution During School Closure

Food distribution will continue over spring break.

Buses will be parked at nine (9) locations throughout the district from 11:00-12:00

to distribute a ‘Grab-n-Go’ lunch to school-age students. At the same time, we will

distribute a ‘Grab-n-Go’ breakfast for the following morning.

The nine locations include:

1. Columbia Elementary

2. Dan Emmett Elementary

3. East Elementary

4. Pleasant Street Elementary

5. Wiggin Street Elementary

6. Middle/High School

7. The Learning Center (West)

8. Central Office (Elmwood)

9. Pat Catan Parking Lot

Please understand that ‘Grab-n-Go’ meals will meet the USDA food guidelines

but they will never be as good as Grandma’s homemade. We will be providing

additional community food bank alternatives on our website. Should we have

students who live one (1) mile outside of the radius of one of these locations and

you need the support of a ‘Grab-n-Go’ meal. Please contact the Office of

Transportation at (740) 393-5995 for additional assistance

Spring Break

Will be April 6th-April 10th

MVHS Academic Boosters

Please join the MVHS Academic Boosters, the 3rd Wednesday of each month, at 7:00 in the MVHS Library as they welcome the input of our parents and community partners in recognizing and supporting the wonderful students and teachers of Mount Vernon High School.
