Mount Vernon High School Weekly Update

From Mr. Will

MVHS Parents/Guardians,

We have reached the halfway mark of the first nine weeks. Students have been working very hard overall and we appreciate the continued communication and support in this learning environment with our students. I am reminded continually of the resilience of our students in navigating through the challenges set before them. We must continue to work together during this time.

My very best to each of you as we continue to navigate through the challenges and obstacles of 2020. Do not hesitate to reach out with your concerns and questions. My contact information is if there are questions or concerns or call my office at 740-393-5900 ext. 5902.

Important Communications

Senior Immunizations - reminder that immunizations are to be up to date. Please contact the high school nurse's office if you have questions on what your senior student needs. Deadline for proper documentation is 9/30/2020.

Remote Class Engagement - reminder that students are to be getting into their classes on remote learning days as student attendance is taken by your teacher for remote learning days. If you are having issues with students accessing work at home, please contact the high school administration.

EMFs and Immunizations

It is important that we have updated information on student EMFs that include any new medical information, address changes and/or authorizations. We also need to be sure that we have proper documentation for immunizations or immunization waivers for our incoming freshman as well as our Class of 2021. This applies to MVDA students as well.

Google Classroom and Progressbook

All teachers will utilize Google Classroom for our Learning Management System at MVHS. Students, whether in class or virtual , will start in this platform daily for all their courses. Grades will continue to be posted and updated in Progressbook. Teachers will update Progressbook weekly and if there are any questions on class marks, please reach out to your child's teacher. If there are any issues with Progressbook, please contact the high school main office.
Big picture

The Census and Our Community

Just a reminder to take part in the 2020 Census. The information collected impacts infrastructure, education and grant programming from the federal level to the State of Ohio

Reminder that all medications students take during the school day must be registered through the school nurse.

1st Quarter Interims

First quarter interim grades will be processed over the coming week. Once interims are finalized, communication will be sent out from the high school in an alert. Interims can be accessed through your Progressbook account once notified.

Students will be allowed to use backpacks the first nine weeks of school initially to carry from class to class. Lockers will not be issued until we are in a "green" situation.

Student Drivers

Students who drive and wish to park in the student parking lots must purchase a parking pass. Parking passes are $5.00 and can be purchased in the main office. This is an annual purchase.

Arrival and Dismissal

Students arriving on the bus will need to enter the doors by the custodial room and immediately enter the cafeteria and sit with appropriate spacing which is marked at the table. There are no students permitted to walk the halls in the morning. We ask that parents dropping off students to not arrive before 7:25AM. Students who have a first period or last period study hall will be permitted to arrive late or leave earlier with proper parent approval form completed and turned into the office. Forms will be available on 8/19/2020 on the MVHS home page. Bus riders will be dismissed at 2:35PM daily to exit the building immediately and board their bus. Second round bus riders will report directly to the auditorium with appropriate distanced seating and will be released when their second round bus arrives.

MVHS Academic Boosters

Please join the MVHS Academic Booster as they welcome the input of our parents and community partners in recognizing and supporting the wonderful students and teachers of Mount Vernon High School. Meetings will be held virtually until further notice and a link will be posted on the Academic Boosters webpage, shared out by our booster president.
