English Language Arts (ELA)
Unit 9 Week 2
Essential Question: What are different ways to get from here to there?
Word Work
- Discriminating between short and long vowels in the middle of words.
- Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds in three-phoneme words.
- Identify the sound of J and Q
- Write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).
- Identify the sight words “me” and “here”.
Shared Reading
- Identify the topic and key details.
- Identify story elements in order to retell the story.
- Make, confirm and revise predictions.
- Compare and contrast two texts.
Grammar/Writing
- Drawing and writing in order to respond to a text.
- Drawing and writing in order to inform.
- Identifying sounds in words, then writing the matching letters.
Kindergarten Sight Word List Challenge
Below is a link to the 65 Kindergarten Sight Words List. The numbers to the left of each word match up with the units in reading. Though we have completed units 1-8, feel free to move ahead. The more words your child knows the more confident reader he/she will become.
Those that have mastered the word list by the date determined will get to throw a water balloon at me. I will be sending more info home as we get closer so have your child practice, practice, practice.
Math
Unit 6: How Many Do You Have? Addition, Subtraction, and the Number System
Essential Questions:
What are efficient ways to count?
- Using numbers, pictures, and/or words to represent a quantity.
- Combining two single-digit numbers.
- Separating one amount from another.
- Using information from a math story to solve a mathematical problem.

Computer
Have your child keep practicing their username and password when getting onto BCPS One to practice Dreambox.
Below are the steps that you and your child can use.
- Go to www.bcps.org.
- Go to students and click on BCPS One.
- Have your child log into their BCPS One account using their personal user name and password.
- Click on Digital Content.
- Click on "d" to open Dreambox.
- Complete at least 2 lessons.

Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
This is when we celebrate your child's birthday during a monthly celebration. You are welcome to come in and join in the singing and celebration. You are also welcome to send in a short activity, goodie bags, an indoor/outdoor recess toy to keep at school, etc. Remember time is limited and some months have 3-4 birthday. No food or siblings. If you are planning to have your child dismiss with you that day please send in a note on that day stating that you would like to have your child dismiss early (3:25) with you.
