Congratulations to Ms. Tanya Hudson, School Librarian at Chase Street Elementary, for being named the CCSD Teacher of the Year! Ms. Hudson will move on to compete in the state competition.

"I’ve been an avid reader since I was a child, maxing out my grandmother’s public library card every week; I grew up to become an elementary school librarian because I believe in the power of stories to engage, inspire, and empower. Every lesson or unit I plan is crafted around this fundamental belief. Instructionally, my role is to support the learning happening in students’ classrooms -- in collaboration with teachers at Chase, library visits become ripe opportunities to enrich content area instruction." ~ Tanya Hudson

Congratulations to Ms. Sonya Welch for being selected as the District Paraprofessional of the Year! Ms. Welch is a Kindergarten paraprofessional and has been working in the district for almost 30 years.

"I became a Paraprofessional to change children's lives by giving them the self-confidence to

believe that they are capable of learning and doing anything and that they too could someday

change the world and the lives of others by getting a good education." ~ Sonya Welch

"For almost 30 years, Sonya Welch has demonstrated a true heart for the children of Gaines Elementary School and she displays a genuine desire, every day, to serve our school and our community in any way she can.“ ~ Dr. Luther McDaniel, Principal

CCSD Salutes Military Veterans

On November 11, we joined our nation in sharing our profound gratitude for members of the United States Armed Forces, past and present.

The words "thank you for your service" cannot capture the depth of our respect and appreciation for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication.

We want to recognize our staff members who, as military veterans, continue to serve our communities, even after their "commitment" to a service branch is complete. They are the embodiment of the term "servant leader" as they continue to help shape the lives of others.

“There are so many exceptional things to say about Kadijah Arnold. One thing that makes her stand out is her thirst for knowledge! Kadijah is always looking for ways to grow and excel as a teacher, whether completing advanced degrees, taking endorsement courses, asking to change grade levels, or taking on leadership roles in our school and the district.

Her thirst for knowledge extends to her students and getting to know them as individuals. She spends time learning about their interests, attending their activities outside of school, and connecting with their families. She models for her colleagues and our students what it means to be a lifelong learner and a truly dedicated educator." ~ Dr. Ellen Sabatini

Parents Pledge to Support Their Students

We know that family engagement plays a key role in student academic learning! As we continue to celebrate Family Engagement Month, we want to highlight the families of Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School and their Parent Pledge.

Cheers to these families who made a very public commitment to engage in and support their student’s learning journeys, and to the school for displaying them prominently in the entrance as a daily reminder for everyone!
