WEBINAR: Parenting in Challenging Times: What is conscious discipline, and why does it matter?
Join us for a webinar on Oct 22, 2019 at 6:00 PM CDT.
Used for classroom management and social-emotional learning, conscious discipline is based on current brain research, child development information and age-appropriate practices. This approach teaches self-regulation skills, focuses on children's voice and empowers them to achieve behavioral goals. Benefits include creating healthy connections, improving impulse control and encouraging cooperation. Conscious discipline is an opportunity for us to better understand and change behavior, allowing us to effectively serve students' needs. Audra Olson will explain conscious discipline, drawing on her 30 years of experience as an educator and counselor in our Park Hill schools. Retired from the classroom, Olson continues to serve our students. She studied with the creator of conscious discipline, and she is working with our staff to bring these skills to Park Hill.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

Social Worker Spotlight
From Ms. Hart, Southeast’s Social Worker
Some families may be facing hardships due to the United Auto Workers' (UAW) strike against General Motors. If your family’s employment is impacted by the strike, your family may be eligible for meal benefits. Please refer to our Parent Resources page here: https://www.parkhill.k12.mo.us/parent_resources/menus_and_nutrition for more information, or to apply for free or reduced meals. Once the strike is finalized and employees are back to work, families can then notify food services of this change. Please fill out the Confidential Resource Checklist for further resources and assistance

On early release dates, all elementary schools release at 1:30 PM. Below you will find the dates for the 2019-2020 school year. Early release transportation arrangements must be communicated with your child’s teacher. If transportation changes need to be made, throughout the year, please contact your child’s teacher or the Southeast Office.
Do You Know A Park Hill Star?
The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy.
The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:
Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.
You will find several ways to stay up to date on school activities throughout the year on the Southeast website , Facebook, Twitter and newsletters from your child’s teacher. You will also occasionally get an automated email or voicemail message sent to you by the school with important information and reminders. We know two-way communication is best, so please feel free to call, email, or stop by the school with any questions you may have regarding your child’s education.
