A Note from Dr. Burdett
Eagle Nation,
We had a great week at PHS! One of the greatest pieces of news we have received is that Darilyn Krempin, one of our Science Teachers, had her last chemo treatment on Thursday!!! In the photo below, Mrs. Krempin is the one holding the cake. We are truly blessed and inspired by her!
I had the pleasure of visiting several classrooms this week and I can tell you our students are putting in good work. In the photo below, you see some of our Engineering students working on their puzzle cubes. I will have to admit that I have tried solving these for the past three years without much success...until now! I sat with Mr. Fangman's class and I solved the first cube! This is always fun for our kids and it demonstrates real-life application of their learning.
We received even MORE news about our academic achievements. Congratulations to our 6 National Merit Hispanic Scholars!
In the photos below, you can see our National Merit Semifinalists, our National Merit Commended Students, and our National Merit Hispanic Scholars. Congratulations to all of these Eagles!
Congratulations to Football on the 42-0 win over Plano East to put us at 2-0 in District play. Volleyball went 2-0 last week with two HUGE road wins against McKinney Boyd on Tuesday and Plano West on Friday. Congratulations to Tennis for their win against Plano and we wish them the best in the playoffs! XC traveled down to Austin where the girls placed 6/71 teams and the boys placed 20/88 teams. Congratulations to our Mighty Eagle Band for placing 4/24 bands at the prestigious HEB Marching contest! Congratulations to our Eagle Nation News and Eagle Production group for receiving 16 nominations for the 2019 Lone Star Emmy Student Production Awards! Congratulations to Christa Nabor and Jonah Leonard for making the All Region Jazz Band and a special congratulations to Jonah for placing 1st and advancing to Area. Congratulations to Ava Andersen, Farnaz Assadi, Alex Frederick, Alena Law, Olivia Lewis, Elijah Steuer, and Sarah Wyatt for making All Region Choir! Final congratulations goes to our Fishing Team for winning 1st place at the Lake Ray Roberts Tournament last weekend (photo below)! These are just a few of the outstanding programs and students at PHS. Inputs lead to outcomes and we are proud of the hard work of our students.
We have a new video from Dr. Bradley, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations, on how we deal with school threats. You can watch the video by clicking here. We take the safety and security of our students as our most important job.
Eagle Time Adjustment
Last week, I mentioned that we are going to make an adjustment to Eagle Time to better ensure the safety of our students. We will be implementing a draft system similar to the one used at Rogers and Hays Middle Schools. An example of the process for our draft is detailed underneath the Eagle Priority Schedule listed below. For simplicity, I use our Monday Eagle Time where English has priority. This adjustment will put fewer students in the halls during the transition to Eagle Time, it will put fewer students in the cafeteria during Eagle Time and this allows for a quicker response time for emergency situations (e.g., the "lock out" on September 12th), it will put fewer students in Eagle Priority Day tutorial sessions, and it will put all students in smaller groups/classes for opportunities for study hall/study skills. As a result, this will allow us to maximize learning during Eagle Time. Morning and afternoon tutorial sessions are still available for our students who need to utilize these times. You can check the website of our teachers for tutorial times.
Sign the Beam
I hope that everyone can make it out to the Sign the Beam event next Friday, October 4th, from 6-8 pm at Children's Health Stadium (details below). What an incredible opportunity we have to show our kids and our community that "TOGETHER WE ARE PROSPER"! Please take note of the new PHS/RHHS artwork created by our kids in the Graphic Design classes of Mr. Cain & Mrs. DeJong. You can see this in my signature line and we will be selling t-shirts and other spirit wear to show this unity of spirit! I love that Mr. Toth, RHHS Principal, is asking our kids to design these wonderful pieces. He is allowing our kids to lead the way into what our new Prosper will be while holding true to the values and traditions that brought us to where we are. It is an honor to work alongside Mr. Toth as we expand the influence of Prosper across two high schools.
Please look at the calendar and see what you can attend. Our students would love to see you supporting them and noticing how our inputs are affecting our outcomes.
