Letter from the Principal
Hello Green Valley Families,
It is hard to believe that we are almost finished with February and have progressed through half of the marking period. This is a good time for you to check in with your teacher regarding your child’s progress. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher to check in to ensure your child is making sufficient progress toward reaching standards that are expected. Our staff always stands ready to support your child and your family with whatever you need to establish a successful partnership and academic program.
Our 5th grade students will participate in MISA (State Science Testing) testing next week. Each test session is about 60 minutes long. The following is the schedule for our testing session. March 11 and March 13th from 9:15-10:45 and 1:30-2:45. PARCC testing will begin at the end of April for 3rd-5th graders. As we get closer to the testing dates, parents will be informed with more specific information regarding schedules for their child’s class. As we plan the testing schedule, our goal is to minimize the impact of the assessment on regular routines and class times. Our students did their very best last year and we expect to see improvement this school year. Please be aware that during PARCC testing, volunteers cannot be in the building to minimize any disruptions in the testing environment.
Remember it is our goal is to teach children the pre-requisite skills needed to think analytically, to express their ideas and to solve problems, while instilling honorable character for the 21st century world. This approach supports the growth of well-rounded students which is evident by the consistent high performance our students achieve on a variety of measures. We are here to nurture life-long learners. Although assessments are important, they are one measure of achievement. We are fully confident that our teachers have prepared our students to achieve at high levels today and every day and that our students are ready to do their best and nothing less and show giant pride!

Watch the Race for Education Video!
Hello GVES Community! As you know, we had a very successful 2018 Race for Education fundraiser--we reached our $40,000 goal!! As a result, the whole school got to celebrate in a very special way--with the help of our fun and supportive principal, Dr. Di Monte. He was a great sport.
The PTA wanted to share the results of our success, and our Race fun with the whole GVES community. Luckily, Kelley Albee, GVES’ Media Specialist, was also a great sport, and quite talented too! She put together this wonderful video for everyone to enjoy. Thank you Ms. Albee!
So please watch the video below (see the link) and please send it to all of your family and friends who donated and supported our 2018 Race for Education.

Congratulations to the 2nd Grade!
Congratulations to the 2nd Grade for winning the Box Top Competition! They collected 2,448 box tops and put 24 books on their book shelf for the Green Valley Giant! The whole 2nd grade gets to celebrate their win with a Popsicle Party on Friday!
And thank you to all of the GVES students, staff and families for all the box tops you sent in. In total, we collected just over 8,000 box tops!! That’s amazing. $800 will be donated to our school because of your help!
If you missed the deadline for our collection this time, not to worry. Box Tops are continually collected throughout the year. You may drop them off in the donation drawer in the school’s lobby at any time, or you may hold on to them until our next competition.
If you have any questions about box tops, feel free to contact Jodi Best. jodibest01@comcast.net.
