FROM THE DESK OF MR. RIFE
Happy Friday OJHS,
As many of you know we kicked off our World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser this week. We started the sale on Wednesday with 450 boxes of chocolate, and we have passed out over 300 boxes! We are off to an amazing start, keep up the great work. This money is used to support our field trips throughout the junior high experience. Some of the places that we go are Wood County Courthouse, Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo Mud Hens, Washington DC, as well as many more student experiences.
Please familiarize yourself with the Homework Calendar located on our website. I have enclosed a link below for quick reference. This is the location where homework/classwork will be posted for you to view.

LETTER FROM MRS. GASE
Dear Parents & Guardians
I would like to take a moment to inform you about legislation that impacts Otsego. The Ohio House Bill 123, also known as the Safety and Violence Education Students (SAVE) Act, was enacted in 2021, and I want to provide you with an overview of its implications.
Ohio House Bill 123 is a comprehensive approach to school and student safety. The SAVE Students Act was passed knowing that student success is dependent on whether students feel safe and supported in school. In terms of this legislation’s impact on our school and students, Ohio HB 123 mandates that all school districts are required to provide one hour of instruction to 6th-12th graders starting in the 2023-2024 school year in the following areas:
Suicide awareness and prevention
Safety training and violence prevention
The school district must use a training program that has been approved by the Ohio Department of Education. For a full breakdown of the SAVE Students Act, please follow this link: https://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Student-Supports/Safety-and-Violence-Education-Students-SAVE-Stude
While this legislation may seem extensive, we have been providing many of these mandates for several years, and we feel confident that we are able to continue to provide this necessary education. After reviewing all of the information, if you decide you do NOT want your child to participate in this education, please fill out the Google Form below.

JUNIOR HIGH FAQ
Where do I drop off my child for school? You'll enter using the main campus entrance and immediately turn right to drop off in front of the Junior High entrance. This is where you'll also pick up your child.
Do I need to send in a note if I'm picking up my child early? No, notes are not needed at the JH level. Please leave yourself enough time to come in and sign your child out. We'll call them down when you get here.
Do I have to come in with my child to sign them in if they're late or after returning from an appointment? No, students can sign themselves in.
How do I pay for lunches? You can pay electronically via Payschools. There's also a locked box with envelopes hanging outside the office for lunch money.

SAFE SCHOOL HELPLINE
Dear Parents, Students and Friends,
Recent polls show that parents’ first concern about schools today is their child’s safety. That is my concern as well. Fortunately, the Otsego is very safe. However, no community is immune from the threats of violence and drugs that endanger public schools nationwide.
We are introducing a Safe School Helpline® to help prevent such actions. It is designed to assist you in reporting any wrongdoing that impacts our schools, our students, or our staff – anonymously, so as to protect your privacy. For example, you may wish to report acts of violence, theft, drug or alcohol use, weapons, or sexual harassment.
Just call from a touch-tone phone to 1-800-4-1-VOICE, ext. 359 (418-6423) to leave your information. Or TEXT: 614-426-0240 Then type: TIPS Your message will not be traced, and you will not be identified. The Safe School Helpline® team will transcribe and fax your message to school officials, so appropriate action can be taken.
Thank you for your continued support to provide a better education for all Otsego students.
