NBPS February Technology Newsletter

This month we are focused on Google Chrome and Meet updates!

Changing Ownership For A Google Meet

Please, watch the video below to learn how to change ownership to not just a calendar invite, but to the Google Meet link attached. This can help with giving another staff member the host feature, with the blue shield access.
Google Meet: Change Owner

Google Meets New Green Room!

Google Meet has created a button where you can check your microphone, video, and quality of sound before entering into a Google Meet. You can record yourself for a few seconds and play it back to yourself, just for you to see how you sound and appear to your audience. This video is not saved anywhere but gives you a clear picture of what others will see before you start the meet.

Update Google Chrome

How to get a Chrome update when available

Normally updates happen in the background when you close and reopen your computer's browser. But if you haven't closed your browser in a while, you might see a pending update:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, look at More .
  3. If an update is pending, the icon will be colored:
    • Green: An update was released less than 2 days ago.
    • Orange: An update was released about 4 days ago.
    • Red: An update was released at least a week ago.

To update Google Chrome:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More .
  3. Click Update Google Chrome.
  4. Important: If you can't find this button, you're on the latest version.
  5. Click Relaunch.

The browser saves your opened tabs and windows and reopens them automatically when it restarts. Your Incognito windows won't reopen when Chrome restarts. If you'd prefer not to restart right away, click Not now. The next time you restart your browser, the update will be applied.

Creating a Split Screen when using Google Meet!

This is a video created to explain how to utilize the split-screen feature while using a Google Meet. This will require you to download the Tab Scissor and Glue extension, which is attached to a link below. The video attached will show you how to split your screen so you can present and still see the chat as well as the guests in your Google Meet.

NBPS Software Request Form

Below you can click the button to access our Software Request Form. Many of the staff members across the district are requesting for us to look into new extensions, applications, and subscriptions. Please complete as much information as you can on the form below, in order to be able to process your request efficiently. Thank you in advance from the Technology Department.

Don't Forget To Check Out Our Technology Resources

Our Staff Corner has a Technology Resource page with a menu of different subscriptions that we have access to in our district or recommend to be utilized during virtual or hybrid instruction. When you click on the icons, you will have access to a variety of resources and information pertaining to that particular technology subscription or tool. This can include newsletters, videos, documents, presentations, etc.

This year if you would like to highlight a staff member...

Please email Carla Segarra at carla_segarra@nbpsnj.net, to be considered for our district-wide newsletters. This is a great way to recognize our staff for all the amazing work they do.
