I certainly hope this communication finds you and your family well. Summer offers families a time to relax and reconnect and I hope you have all found ways to do just that. My family did not travel far, but we did enjoy long weekends in St. Louis, Louisville, Michigan City, and Milwaukee. Our destinations were determined by my youngest son's baseball schedule and we enjoyed exploring what each city had to offer. Another highlight of my summer happened when my entire immediate family of five were all able to be together, in the same state at the same time, for the first time in two years! With the city of Chicago as our backdrop, we spent quality time as tourists in our own backyard.
Last school year is one that we will never forget, and I do hope that you feel rested, recharged and ready to embrace the school year ahead. We are gearing up for the 2021-22 school year with excitement and enthusiasm. Our hopes and expectations were high that we would be able to resume school with minimal restrictions. As the recommendations for repoening schools come out, our district is working hard to make decisions that are in the best interest of everyone, especially your children. There is a Board of Educatoin meeting on August 11th and I expect to have more details about the guildelines we will follow to open school safely. We are likely to have another year with some different practices, and we will probably need to make adjustments along the way. There are likely going to be times you will wholeheartedly agree with and support the decisions that are made; and there are likely times you may not be in total agreement with them. Please know that each decision is carefully made with student, family, staff, and community best interests in mind. We have been asked to to put the benefit of all before the needs of individauls in the past, and I anticipate we will be asked to do so again. I thank you in advance for your understanding, patience, and partnership.
To help our students meet the changes in practice with flexibility and an open mind, we will be introducing and utilizing the framework of author Carol Dweck's book, Mindset. The book introduces the concepts of flexibility, perseverance, and perspective - all things that will serve your students well this year and in life. If you have not read the book, it is a quick easy read and I'd welcome your feedback. PTA will be suppporting this effort by offering of a Growth Mindset T-Shirt in our spirit wear sale. Staff and students alike will band together wearing spirit wear or school colors on Mindset Mondays this school year.
Teacher assignments will be viewable by parents/guardians in Infinite Campus
on/after August 5th after 4:00 pm. We are working hard on finalizing registrations and placing students appropriately into classrooms as needed. If you have not completed the registration process, please kindly contact our school office to finalize the process as soon as possible.
The Marion Jordan teachers would like to invite all of our students to our annual Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday, August 17th from 8:30-9:30 am. This is a great time for your student to bring in his/her supplies, navigate the hallways, and meet their classroom teacher. If you are not able to attend, your child should bring his/her supplies on their first day of school. School supply lists are linked HERE for your convenience. Please note the changes in procedure for this event so that it may be held with safety as a firtst priority. If your last name begins with the letter A-L, we kindly ask that you consider attending from 8:30-9am; if your last name begins with M-Z, we kindly as you consider attending from 9-9:30am. We are also asking for just one parent to accompany their child (ren). All entering our building on this day are asked to wear a mask. We are also asking that multiple doors be used to reduce the number of people in hallways at the same time. The doors identified are the ones closest to the classrooms you will access upon entrance.

From the Health Office
Hello! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far! With the start of the new school year only a few weeks away, it is time to make sure your child’s health requirements are up to date.
- All students entering Kindergarten, 2nd and 6th grade require a dental exam.
All students new to District 15 will require a current physical exam with all immunizations up to date (Certificate of Child Health Examination), and students new to the State of Illinois, including incoming Kindergarten students, will require an eye examination. This form is available in the school office, online, and here: State of Illinois Eye Examination Report.
All students should provide proof of immunizations by October 15, 2021, or the student will be excluded from school. The list of current immunizations can be found on the district website here: IDPH Health Requirements.
Students with health conditions such as asthma, epilepsy/seizures, severe allergies, and diabetes require the emergency action plan completed by their physician along with the Medication Administration Forms, signed by the physician and parent, for any medications required at school. Please bring these forms and medications on or before the first day of school. These forms are available in the school office, online, and here
Diabetic Medical Management Plans must be brought in along with medication and supplies prior to or on the first day of school in order for the student to attend.
If your child requires any of these health documents and you have not done so already, please kindly make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. If you have any questions regarding the above requirements, you may reach me at thomass2@ccsd15.net I will be back in the office the first week of August to answer any phone calls. At that time, we will also have more specific information to share related to COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions for the upcoming school year. Thank you for your patience. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your summer!
Sincerely,
Sherin Thomas, RN BSN

Picture Day is Coming Up!
Picture Day for Marion Jordan Elementary School is scheduled for Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Ordering information will be shared in the near future.
A note on masks: Inter-State Studio photographers and reps will follow the mask policy in place at your school.
For student pictures, please note we will work with parent volunteers or school employees to ensure each child is ready to have their picture taken and has their mask removed if they feel comfortable. Our photographers may simply ask one time, "Would you like to take off the mask for your portrait?"
