Col. John O. Ensor Middle School is proud to have been awarded by The Texas Education Agency as fulfilling the criteria requirements of 19 TAC, § 61.1063 for the 2020-2021 school year, demonstrating support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of military connected students and their families, earning the Purple Star CampusDesignation.
The Purple Star Campus Designation is a special honor created by the 86th Texas Legislature through SB 1557. We are proud of our military connected families and will continue to work to build strong partnerships of support!
I am also proud to share the Col. John O. Ensor Middle School has been selected as a candidate for TASSP Texas Schools to Watch honor. The Leadership and campus teams are proud of the effort to designate as a Texas School to Watch! The next step in the process is for the Schools to Watch site team to make a visit to our campus. Whether in person or virtual, I am confident that our campus will meet and exceed expectations of being an exceptional Texas School to Watch! I will keep you posted!
As we continue our Remote Learning, it is very important that we continue to work together to make sure our Eagle are actively participating in their classes. Students should be logged in by 8:15 AM and maintain cameras on throughout the day, unless teachers direct students otherwise. Students should be turning in their classwork and completing their homework on a daily basis. If for some reason your child is not able to log in, please contact the school by phone at 937-6001, via email to administration, counselors, or teachers. We will do our best to help ensure your child has access to all their classes when they run into these situations.
Due to the Veteran's Day Holiday on Wednesday, Nov. 11th, there will be no classes on this day.
Class period attendance is closely monitored. We have begun issuing out Attendance Warning Letters to students who accumulate excessive absences. By law, students need to be in school 90% of the instructional time. Once a student falls below the 90% attendance, a student may be subject to Truancy Court and an Attendance Plan will be developed for your child. Missing more than the 90% will result in students having Loss of Credit. This means that students will need to make up the time in order to gain full credit for the class. Please ensure our Eagles are logging into class every day, every period, and on time. For any technical difficulties, again, please continue to contact us.
Socorro ISD continues to follow the Region 19 School System COVID-19 Campus Attendance Plan to guide its safe transition back to in-person learning. Approved by the Texas Education Agency, the data-driven plan will provide the district the flexibility to follow the data and safely reopen schools when the local community health improves.
As with all COVID-19 plans, it is important to note that details may be subject to change pending the state of our local community health and new guidance issued by national, state, and local authorities as we progress through the school year.
Remember, practice social distancing, wear a mask, and wash your hands regularly so we can all do our part in keeping Team SISD safe!
I would also like to thank you all for working with through the fluid adjustments we all have had to make to ensure that the return of our Eagles is done with the utmost caution for their safety and health. Additional information will be shared as it is made available to our campus.
I know this has been difficult for our families, having to navigate through unexpected times. However, please know that we as a campus and as a district are going to do all that we can to help support our Eagles through this time of uncertainty in the learning process. I assure you that as our situation improves, we will make marked attempts to ensure our Eagles are and continue to be prepared for the next level of learning on their educational journey. For now, please stay safe and healthy. It is only in caring for one another through compassionate awareness that we can end this experience and one day be together again at the Nest.
Missing you all, dearly.
