MRS. DETTMER'S NOTES
It was a great week back. We began a new recognition program for our Rockcreek students. We are recognizing our students that go above and beyond with expectations, growth, expert learner traits, etc. Teachers will write a positive referral for these students. After a positive phone call home we will display the student's picture in the hall. Our goal is to fill the paw print by the end of the school year!
With the snow over the weekend I wanted to remind you about out snow days. We have 5 days (1 that we have used) built into the school year. We will have an e-learning day on the 6th snow day of the school year.
Please note a few important items below -
- Changes with the Rockcreek REMIND
- E-Learning Information
- No School on Monday
- Pop Tab Contest
Important Dates -
1/19 - Cheer Competition
1/21 - No School
Weather and E-Learning
E-Learning days - If we think it will be a possibility of an E-Learning day we will send chromebooks home with any students with signed permission. (This was sent home at the beginning of the school year.) If we are caught by surprise (flood days last year) we will have the building open by 9 am to allow access to pick up the device and charger. All work can be completed after snow days as well. Students will have a total of 3 days after the E-Learning day to complete the assignments. Let's hope the warm weather continues!
We want to bring home the TROPHY!
Super Saturday
EBL participants and fans,
With winter weather moving into the area again this Saturday, 1/19, we want to communicate our plans in advance. We plan to have EBL championship basketball games and Elementary Cheer Day as scheduled on Saturday at Columbus North High School. In the event of a postponement of the basketball games due to weather, a message will be posted to the EBL website by 9:00 a.m. If weather conditions worsen throughout the day and Cheer Day needs to be postponed, that message will be posted and announced by 1:00 p.m.
If the basketball games are postponed, they will be held on Tuesday, January 22 at Columbus East High School beginning at 6:00 p.m., with the boys playing first followed by the girls’ game.
If Cheer Day is postponed, it will be held on Thursday, January 24 at Columbus North High School beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Positive Referrals!
Growth Awards Begin!
Rockcreek Remind
For users of Remind.com, there has been a significant change that affects users with Verizon service. Verizon is charging Remind, a small start-up company, millions of dollars for the distribution of Remind text services. The fee will not apply to parents, students, or you. Because of the charges, Remind will no longer send text messages to stakeholders using Verizon as of January 28th. In other words, you can send Reminds, but recipients with Verizon service, will not receive them via text. Any user who has the Remind app will continue to receive push notifications when a Remind message is sent.
What you can do:
Inform stakeholders that if they have Verizon service, they will need to download the Remind app or set up notifications through email.
Tell Verizon why this service is so important for safe communication and equity. You can do this through social media or through the link provided by Remind.
We are hopeful that Verizon will change their position, but we are proactively looking for other alternatives. We are also talking to Remind to see if Verizon services can continue through the end of the school year.
The Weather is Changing
Note From Nurse
As a reminder, please keep your child home for 24 hours if they are experiencing fever, vomit, or diarrhea. As with any illness the best defense is to keep up with good hand hygiene, keeping distance from those who are ill, and covering coughs and sneezes. The upcoming months typically bring the most illness, let’s try to keep our kids and our school healthy! Please contact the nurse, Mrs. Barker, with any questions or concerns.
Quick Facts
How can you help Rockcreek? - Coca-Cola and Office Depot
Dear Parents,
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up Rockcreek to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students.
The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply enter the product codes here: https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools/ and our school receives a donation.
Help Rockcreek make the most of this program and learn more at Coke.com/give.
