What's Happening?
Hustle and bustle is the best way to describe KES right now. Teachers have completed our baseline assessments using our new powerful STAR 360 system and are pouring over the data during PLC time. This work leads to changes in instruction, student grouping, and special programming. Below examples of summary reports--STAR 360 offers many more.

Competitions
- We love to build teamwork through healthy competition. Right now, KES has two month long competitions happening. At the staff level, we are raising funds for United Way through pay roll deductions. When teachers provide Abby a copy of the United Way payroll deduction form, the are entered into a drawing for one of two Hydro flask water bottles.
- We are trying to prevent rotting teeth from upcoming Halloween candy. Students are competing in a dental hygiene competition by brushing and flossing everyday in October. Parents have receive tracking forms that monitor student dental hygiene. Parents will submit the forms at the end of the month and students with a 90% score of higher will receive a free toothbrush. Dr. Robert Moon of Big Country Family Dental has donated 100 toothbrushes for prizes.
School Safety
- KES completed our monthly emergency drill for September. The fire evacuation drill took less than five minutes, with all student out of the building safe and accounted for in less than 3 mins. We implemented a new color coded rally point to streamline the attendance process. Two Lieutenants from Kittitas Fire and Rescue observed the drill, and we debriefed with them afterwards. They offered insightful suggestions for improvement.
- Bryan Nash and Del Enders are working on bids for a new entry camera installation for the primary building. This will be exactly like the entry camera system in the intermediate building.
- Individual student safety plans will be completed by the end of the month.
