INFLUENZA and healthy tips
As we approach the mid-winter months, it is important to be aware of illnesses which can have an impact on our families and children.
One of the most common illness is Seasonal Influenza (Flu).
Below are some key points to keep in mind:
COMMON INFLUENZA SYMPTOMS:
- Fever (usually High or >100°F)
- Headache
- Extreme fatigue
- Dry cough
- Sore throat
- Runny/Stuffy nose
- Muscle Aches/pains
- Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea can also occur in children
Symptomatic children will be excluded from school until fever subsides.
Prevention—Staff, students, and parents can help reduce the impact of the cold and flu season by following these simple tips:
- Get a flu shot!
- Keep your child at home for fever of 100 or more. Student must be fever-free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
- Keep your child at home if vomiting or diarrhea. Student must be symptom free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
- Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds or more. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand rub/gel.
- Cough and/or sneeze into a tissue or your upper sleeve, not into your hand.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
As with any health concern, should you or your child experience any of the above-mentioned symptoms, we recommend that you see your primary care physician or health care provider for diagnosis/treatment.
In keeping with best practices, the district encourages parents to keep their students home when ill and staff members are encouraged to not come to work when ill.
Information is posted on the district’s parent website at: https://www.pisd.edu/Page/1751
More information can be found on the following government sites:Attendance Reminders
