Staff Spotlight
This month's staff spotlight is on Mrs. Braden! She teaches intervention classes, as well as our video production classes where students write, film, and edit the morning announcements.
What sparked the idea to have our students do morning announcements?
- "I’ve been teaching journalism classes for 8 years. We thought about doing newspaper and then discussed a more media type class which evolved into doing morning announcements. Other schools have done it, why shouldn’t we?"
What has student response been?
- "They all like the idea of trying it, but are often scared when it comes to being on screen. They are also learning you can’t ad lib for video – you need a script! There are a few who really enjoy being on screen and will volunteer every single time."
What has response been with students/ teachers who get to see announcements?
- "Teachers really enjoy it, and even a few parents have reached out/ subscribed. It is a great way to stay up to date with what is going on at Marshall."
Is there anything else you’d like people to know?
- "We do more than just green screen morning announcements. Students are working on writing about things going on at Marshall (clubs, classes, etc.) They research their own content and interview students at Marshall to learn what is interesting and relevant to our school population. The media students want their announcements to be something that other students and staff look forward to and enjoy!"
