It Made A Difference For That One...
“Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.
He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"
The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."
"I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man.
To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."
Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"
At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said,
"It made a difference for that one.”

Recycling Coordinator Needed: Update
Information from PTO
As we transition between PTO boards, please be patient and mindful that this organization is having to start from scratch. A new EIN number, tax-free designation, bank account, etc must all be established before we can begin the real work of this organization. There is a LOT of behind the scenes work being done in this area.
From Tanner: Our Vice-President:
Next Wednesday (September 12), Kona Ice will be at Ebinport during all recesses. Prices range from $3 to $5. Twenty percent of all proceeds will go back to Ebinport and our PTO. This will be a monthly event. Also, if you have a parent approach you about reserving the spirit rock out front, please send them my way.
Moby Max, MAYBE?
As I strive to make responsible fiscal choices I need your input. Please complete this quick survey indicating your desire for the school to purchase the Moby Max license. In previous years PTO has purchased this. However, this year that is not a possibility. If this is a widely used resource I will purchase this for the school.
**At this point there are 10 responses. If you want a voice, please vote.

Safety Committee
Committee Goals and Concerns
· Encourage everyone to watch the Safe Schools videos so we can earn the additional money. There are three new health videos (asthma, seizures, and Epi-Pens) that are due by October 1st.
· Emergency bags and radios should be teachers at all times.
o At least one emergency bag should be at recess or on the playground.
o Check the batteries on your flashlight. Report dead batteries to Rhonda Cranford.
· Encourage everyone to close and lock their doors when they leave their classrooms.
o This also applies to adults who have a master key who pick up students.
o Back doors for some rooms (first grade) are unlocked. The teacher keys do not fit these doors.
o Keep the stage door closed (across from Ms. Lake’s room).
· Ensure that everyone has the essential information in their clipboards.
o Safe Seven cards (red and green cards)
o emergency numbers and rosters (for reunification)
o Emergency Care Plans and health issues from Rhonda Cranford
· Determine and distribute evacuation routes (fire, tornado, earthquake, etc.). Revisit this in January, too.
· Schedule a visit with Officer Slawson to walk through with Safety Committee.
