St. Mike's Matters - Thursday Notes
April 19, 2018 Issue #26
Dear St. Michael Families,
Our faculty participated in a school safety workshop this week led by Officer Liska from the Tumwater Police Department. Officer Liska has been a valuable partner of our school and parish for many years, and his insights and recommendations have helped to enhance our student safety efforts. His presentation validated the measures we have taken to ensure that we have a secure building with locked security doors, as well as our procedures for practicing lockdown drills. Through the work of our Safety Committee, we will continue to review, evaluate, and practice our emergency lockdown procedures. In light of our training, please remember that all volunteers and visitors are required sign in and wear a sticker. Officer Liska stated that it is essential that all adults on campus have an identifiable badge so that law enforcement can efficiently locate the threat in a school emergency. Thank you for helping ensure the safety of all.
We are busy preparing for our Spring Program and Senior Luncheon scheduled for next Thursday, April 26th. The evening performance begins at 6:00; please ensure that your elementary children are in their classrooms by 5:30. I am so grateful to the leadership and vision of Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. McKenzieSullivan and all of their work with our students to prepare them for their musical performances. The program is such a gift to our community and I know next Thursday will be an enjoyable evening of celebrating our students’ musical talents. Please know that I will be unable to attend this year since I will be in Dallas for the Amazing Parish conference along with other members from our parish leadership team. So, I will be cheering for our students from afar!
This week our 5th graders and 8th graders are taking the ACRE test (Information for Growth Assessment for Children/Youth Religious Education Assessment). This is an assessment that all 5th graders and 8th graders in our archdiocese are taking starting this year to inform our teachers of strengths and areas of future growth for our religion classes. The assessment includes questions related to both the cognitive domain (knowledge of faith) and the affective domain (beliefs, attitudes, practices, and perceptions of the faith). Due to this integrated approach, the assessment will provide our teachers with multifaceted insights about our religion curriculum and I look forward to studying the data with them.
In other spring assessment news, our students in grades 2-8 will be conducting their MAP testing during the month of May. Please ensure that your children are well rested and have a good breakfast on their specific testing days, and thank you for supporting their achievement!
Blessings,
Connor Geraghty
Principal

Snohomish Ride to Defeat ALS to support Fr. Jim, Team Saint Michael, and ALS research and patient support.
Please pull out your bike and join your friends and parishioners in the Snohomish Ride to Defeat ALS to support Fr. Jim, Team Saint Michael, and ALS research and patient support.
The ride is on July 28th and takes place on the Snohomish County Centennial Trail - safe, paved, and accessible! You can choose from three routes: 23, 48, and 65 miles - and you can cheer us on without riding if you want to simply support the team with a donation (any amount is appreciated).
We've put the team together as a concrete way to show our support for Fr. Jim and all those impacted by this devastating disease. By raising money and awareness we move closer towards a treatment and a cure. Please join Team Saint Michael or make a donation to our team as we all work together to defeat ALS. Follow the link to sign up to ride or support our Team Saint Michael on the ride. All the information and FAQs are on our team website, as well as a list of team members. See you on the ride!

Veneration of St. Pio's Relics
Since the seating is limited, you can reserve your seat for $15. We plan on leaving at Olympia around 7:30AM to make the 9:00AM Mass. Veneration of the Relics will be after Mass until 4:30PM. We plan to depart at Noon in order to get lunch on the way back down. Our hope is to be back by 3:00PM so school families that are going to the SMART GALA will have time to get ready for that event.
