Mrs. McGeorge's Super Second Grade

Week of February 1, 2016

What We're Learning

Reading and Writing

We are working hard on non-fiction! We will wrap up our unit on main idea and details this week and review the concept of fact versus opinion. In Writing, we are writing "How To" guides. We are also introducing contractions in our Word Study/Spelling time this week.

Math

We are working on a number sense unit now in which students will be practicing skip counting by 2, 5, 10, and 100 into the thousands. We will also review place value this week. We will begin comparing numbers into the thousands either at the end of this week or the beginning of next.

Science

We are starting a new unit on motion this week! We will learn about gravity, momentum, balance, and more over the coming weeks.

It's that time of year... Student-Led Conferences!

For student-led conferences, the student directs his/her family to different learning stations and teaches their parents/families things that s/he has learned in class. We will have a handful of different stations in our room, including a quick conference/catch up with the teacher. We are aiming for 100% attendance. Please plan on attending either this Thursday (February 4) or next Monday (February 8) between 3:30 and 7:30 pm. The whole conference will likely take a half-hour, so please arrive before 7:00 so you have enough time. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call or email!

In Other News...

  • Thank you to the families that turned in Box Tops, Labels for Education, and My Coke Rewards points this last week! We had so many all come in on the same day, and I completely forgot to jot down student names. Regardless, Moreau Heights greatly appreciates your help and support!
  • Scholastic book order flyers are coming home Monday, February 1. Order forms are due back Thursday, February 11 if would like to purchase books. There is also an online order option (explained on the flyers).
  • If you have not yet returned your child's data binder, please do so this week. They will be part of a station at our Student-Led Conferences. Thank you!
