The Mustang Minute
June 15, 2018 - Issue 37
Spreading Our Wings
In our penultimate week here at CMS we have not slowed down one bit! Our grade 7 students were visited by the New England Aquarium who brought squids with them for dissection. The students dived right in and were able to locate and remove the esophagus and several other parts! In grade eight the students finished their invasive species "Most Wanted" posters which were pretty amazing to see. The week ended with a Rocket Launch by our STEM club. Science is definitely taking "no days off".
Our grade 6 literacy and English language learning students visited the Balch school this week to read stories. A great opportunity for our students to demonstrate their growing skills while making good connections to our younger community members. They had a great time and were able to read outside on some of these nice days!
Our grade 8 students visited NHS this week. They started off with a warm welcome from all the Mustang Mentors in their bright yellow shirts. Students took tours of the high school, had a question and answer session, and were able to hear about different extracurricular options. Thanks to the NHS guidance staff for a great visit!
Last Friday our Honor band, orchestra, and chorus went to the Great East Festival. At the event they earned the following:
Honor Chorus: Platinum Medal
Honor Band: Platinum Medal
Honor Orchestra: Gold Medal
Jazz Band: Platinum Medal
CMS is very proud of the hard work and effort that lead these students to such a high accomplishment!

Grade 8 Dance reminders!
As we get closer to the Grade 8 Awards and Promotion ceremony and dance a couple of reminders:
- Students must have signed up for the dance. Students will not be allowed to attend if they did not sign up.
- Students will be checked into the dance after the ceremony. If you signed up for the dance and are unable to attend, please tell your homeroom teacher as we will contact parents of those students that do not check into the dance. We want to make sure all our students are safe!
- If a student needs to leave the dance early they must be picked up by a parent. This is again for safety.
- Please be sure to pick up your student promptly at 9pm. All the teachers and students attending do have school the next day!

As we near the end of the year we have a few special activities and requests for 6th and 7th grade parents.
Field Day, June 19 & Graduation. June 21 - 7th grade parents traditionally help out with 8th grade graduation, and this year we will need parents to help set up and serve food from 5-7. For field day we need donations of water and ice. Small water bottles are preferred. You can sign up for either need here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0d4aada828a6f85-field1
School kits available for purchase. Order on schooltoolbox.com. Ordering deadline is June 24 and they will be delivered to Coakley the week of August 13th. THIS IS A NEW VENDOR
We are also still looking for volunteers for PTO next year - board positions and coordinators. Please contact coakleypto@gmail if you would like to help.
