Caruso Connect - September 8th

Caruso Middle School is an inclusive and vibrant community where Blue Jays
take ownership of their social-emotional and academic growth by supporting,
challenging, and celebrating self and others.
Good Evening Blue Jay Families:
Today we had our school photos and our students really looked GREAT! You will receive an email with a direct link to your student's gallery for viewing and ordering approximately 2-3 weeks from now. If you student missed this today or you are unhappy with their photos, we will hold a make up day on October 13th.
Next week we will be MAP testing on Tuesday, September 12th and Thursday, September 14th. Please see the schedules below and try to avoid scheduling appointments for your students during this time. If a student misses testing, we will work with them to make it up. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Lake County STEM for Girls Conference
(Communicated 9/8/23)
We are excited to share that the Lake County STEM for Girls Conference is back! The conference hosts women from various STEM fields who work with the attending students by engaging in hands-on activities with real-world applications. Each session is interactive and inspiring! Girls in grades 6th-8th are invited to attend.
We have a STEM fair (with lots of goodies) and also invite parents/guardians to attend adult sessions to learn more about saving for college, how to support students in high school academic paths, and mindfulness. We have a fantastic keynote and an enthusiastic closing for both students and parents!
This year the conference is being held at Vernon Hills High School on November 4th, 2023. Registration is open! If you have any questions, please contact lcstemforgirls@gmail.com

Photo/Video & Directory Opt Out Form - due Sept. 12!
(Communicated 9/8/23)
DPS 109 uses photos and videos of students and staff to tell the district’s story! The district also maintains directory information and shares it with our parent-teacher organizations and other District-connected organizations so that they can keep parents in the loop with important information (such as school lunch ordering, after-school enrichment, and other events, volunteer opportunities, and educational trips for middle school students). We use an opt out system to maintain these permissions.
If you are granting permission for photos and/or directory information, log in to Family Access and complete the opt out form without checking any boxes.
If you wish to opt out of photos/videos or directory information (or both), please check the applicable box and hit submit. *Please note that opting out of publications includes the yearbook.
If you have any questions, please contact Eric Steckling at esteckling@dps109.org.

Camp Duncan - 6th Grade Only
(Communicated 8/25/23)
The plans for outdoor education at Camp Duncan in Ingleside, IL have been finalized. Camp Duncan provides our students with a wonderful opportunity to engage in exciting activities that support team building, science and many outdoor experiences. This is an exciting day for our sixth graders. It is also a long day, as we will return to school at approximately 5:00 pm. All students must ride the bus in both directions, and may not be picked up early from camp. Our staff and students will be participating in team-building activities throughout the camp, and we have a fun day planned. Camp Duncan will provide lunch for our students. Lunch will consist of pizza and salad bar. In the next few week you will receive a packet of information that will guide you through preparation for this very special event. Please read through the information carefully. The signed permission slip should be returned to your child’s 1st period teacher on or before Friday, September 8th.
