Caroline Vienne has been named the St. Landry Parish 8th grade Student of the Year. Congratulations to Caroline on this prestigious honor! Caroline competed against other 8th graders in the parish for this title and EJHS is extremely proud of her academic excellence as well as her extracurricular involvements.

EUNICE ELEMENTARY

Eunice Elementary held its annual Mardi Gras parade for the school. Parents, friends, and relatives lined the street in front of the school, loaded the boulevard and around the block to watch the students and catch beads. Eunice Junior High Band once again led the procession for the students. Pictured is Ms. Shirley Miller is pictured leading Pre-k students in the parade.

Students at Eunice Elementary are going through a DARE program for four weeks. They are being told of the dangers of drugs, and other items. The DARE program is being administered by SGT, Barbiere of the Sheriff's Dept. Pictured is SGT Barbiere and a group of students participationg in the program.

KROTZ SPRINGS ELEMENTARY

Career Awareness Day at Krotz Springs Elementary

The purpose of this educational forum was to provide students with hands-on exposure and an opportunity to experience the real world of college and careers. Career Awareness Day was aimed to connect students to speakers and leaders within various industries. The students met with representatives from Spherion, Opelousas General Hospital, Placid, South Louisiana Community College-Opelousas Campus, Med Express, Spherion, Louisiana Department of Wildlife-Enforcement Division, and EVERFI.

Lawtell Elementary kicked off their 4th-8th grade Saturday School Academy on Saturday, February to prepare for LEAP testing. Teachers were able to give test taking tips and strategies, as well as teach various skills in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies. There will be five more Saturday sessions for the students to receive more test prep knowledge. Special thanks to Mrs. Felicia Dupre who is the Site Coordinator for the Just One Word, Inc. 21st Century Community Learning Center Program and Program Director Pastor Bonnie Riley.

Opelousas High School is proud to recognize the following young men who signed with colleges for their achievements both on and off the gridiron on National Signing Day. Mark Barthelemy signs to Tyler Jr. College in Tyler, Texas. Dyshun Sias and Kenneth Bergeron have signed with Louisiana College in Pineville, LA. Michael Arceneaux has signed with Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. George Dominick play for the CMP Academy Drillers in Lafayette. Decourian Fontenot is a preferred walk-on with Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA. Lastly, recognizing Marlon Young who made early commitment to Georgia State in Atlanta, Georgia.
