Vertical Collaboration

Hello Huskies,

As shared by the Building Leadership team (Adam and Colleen) in December 2015, "vertical collaboration" was added in lieu of a staff meeting as part of the School Improvement Plan for the rest of the school year.

Please see the presentation below from December on the purpose and expectations of Vertical Collaboration time. As you recall, this was added as a support in moving Language Workshop and AVMR from "Initiation" to "implementation" phase. Specifically, this is a chance for additional time in lesson plan development and resource gathering.

Vertical Collaboration

This was advocated by the BLT as a time to plan with colleagues around Language Workshop planner or AVMR lessons. Both of these have shared folders to drop in your lesson plans.

This Thursday is the next opportunity! Thanks for your attention in making this lesson planning time meaningful.

Have a great week everyone,

Safety and Weather Drills Reminders

Before the end of the school year, we will have one more weather and safety drill. Both of the drills will be unannounced. This is in addition to the monthly fire drills that are taking place. Please take some time to review safety/weather drill protocol with students this week.

Headphones Purchased

Hadfield has invested in a pair of Koss headphones for every student to use for testing and classroom use. Please pay particular attention to the details below regarding their use. Please be sure to review pertinent information with students and families.

  • Headphones are barcoded and checked out to students through Destiny in the library

  • Headphones are in a bag with student name and barcode - barcode number is on headphone

  • Each classroom is provided a bin to store the headphones

  • The headphones belong to Hadfield and are not the property of the student so no stickers or markings should be allowed on the headphones

  • The headphones will remain at school and should not be allowed to go home

  • There is a lifetime warranty on the headphones - contact Becky if there is a problem

  • If the headphones are lost there is a $10 replacement fee

  • If the headphones are broken due to student misuse there is a $10 replacement fee

  • At the end of the school year all headphones will be cleaned with a disinfectant wipe that will be provided

  • At the end of the school year put all headphones in the storage bin that was provided and return to Becky for summer storage in the library office

  • Current 5th grade headphones will become 2016-2017 kindergarten headphones

  • All storage bins will be returned to teachers in August with current 2016-2017 student headphones

PLC Refinement-The Next 100 Days

As Adam and Aubrey shared at the staff meeting on March 24th, we are looking forward to building upon grade level PLC's.

Here is the link to the presentation shared.

Below link to the slides/document (located in the Hadfield PLC Notes folder) you can use to create your own grade-level artifact for P/D/S/A.

As Adam shared this is one possibility to demonstrate the efforts of your grade level PLC. Each grade level PLC will be sharing out on April 28th (the next staff meeting). If you decide to use the template below, "please make a copy."

Students in grades 4th and 5th will be participating in a Career Fair on Friday April 15th from 9:00am to 11:00am.

4th and 5th-grade students have been participating in a Career Exploration Unit during the month of March and this will be the final part of the unit. The students will meet with professionals from both Waukesha and Milwaukee County.

Students will use their iPads to collect information from the presenting professionals. The professionals were determined by interest forms that the students selected as potential career choices.

Students not Meeting growth target consecutive years

In the link below you will find a list of 2nd to 5th-grade students who did not meet their growth target for the 2014-15 school year. You will notice the status of them being on track in meeting their goal as it relates to 2015-16 growth target. This is based on the most recent January 2016 MAP assessment in reading and math. Thanks to the data team for their help with this data analysis.

Next steps and questions to consider

Students not meeting their growth target for consecutive years is concerning. Keep in mind the growth target is recalculated and lowered after they did not meet the target last spring.

Are the students receiving Tier 3 support in Math or Reading? What other supports are in place at the universal level for these students? How are they supported within the workshop model? Does MAP align with other formative data you have on the student?

Has a PST request been considered?
