Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month
Goodnoe is excited to honor and celebrate Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month during the month of April. April 2nd is the actual day but we are going to celebrate all month long! Currently, according to the CDC and the National Institute of Health 1 in 44 children have been identified with autism spectrum disorder. We are starting the month by having each student in the building color a puzzle piece that will help create a bulletin board that says “We are all Part of the Puzzle” which is so true here at Goodnoe. Over the course of the month, we will be participating in a variety of activities:
- Everyone was invited to wear shirts that represent autism acceptance/awareness on Monday, April 3rd.
- All students with their buddy classes, will read, discuss and complete an activity centered around the book It’s Ok to Be Different by Todd Parr.
- We will also share important facts about autism over the morning announcements.
- Autism Acceptance and Spirit Week April 11th -14th.
We are aware that there are different symbols and sayings that people are comfortable with using when discussing autism. Some people are comfortable with the puzzle piece, others prefer the infinity symbol. Some people prefer to use the terminology of autistic people while others are comfortable with people with autism. While we try to educate ourselves in each area, it is our hope to embrace and share acceptance of everyone no matter the symbols or terminology. We look forward to sharing in these activities together to celebrate autism awareness and acceptance over the month of April.

Elite 8: First in Math March Madness Tournament
This past week at Goodnoe Elementary School, the Elite 8 competed in the First in Math March Madness Tournament. Congratulations to the following students for making it this far: Zihao Don, Lucy Gersh, Naisha Kohad, Keira Lyons, Leah Tsuker, Eli Merriman, Siddhant Ananthuni and Jessica Wu. Also pictured are the sixth-grade helpers, without whom, the tournament would not be possible.
Notes from the Music Room
Spring has sprung in the music room. Sounds in the school are blossoming with our two favorite spring songs “The Green Grass Grew All Around” and “The Garden Song” – We have also had a great time playing the “Shaky Egg” game and dancing around the room to the “Bunny Hop” – If you would like to share these fun songs at home, use this LINK.
Reading Tidbits & Tips
Genre of the month, Poetry. April is National Poetry Month. Poetry is a type of literature, or artistic writing, that attempts to stir a reader's imagination or emotions. The poet does this by carefully choosing and arranging language for its meaning, sound, and rhythm. Some poems, such as nursery rhymes, are simple and humorous. Share a favorite nursery rhyme of yours from when you were a child with your own child or children this month.
Council Rock Evening Summer Music Program
Students can improve their musical skills this summer by participating in the CR summer music ensembles. All ensembles are directed by Council Rock Music Staff, and the program is designed to improve students' music reading and performance skills while having fun playing music.
The Council Rock Evening Summer Music Program offers ensembles for students entering grades 4 through 9. These will take place from June 20th to July 19th, and there are offerings in band, orchestra, and chorus.
Check out the flyer and the button below, and you can register your child at this LINK. For more information contact Keith Rudat at krudat@crsd.org..

In total, there are over 3000 works on display during the show. This year's show will take place at Council Rock South. Students will tour during the school day on May 18th and May 19th. iRun4Life - 4TH, 5TH, & 6TH GRADE STUDENTS
We will be opening registration for iRun4Life next week. iRun4Life is a fun, noncompetitive running program designed to promote fitness and healthy lifestyles with children. iRun4Life focuses on exercise, healthy nutrition, and doing good deeds in our community. Training will start Wednesday April 12, 2023 with our goal race being the iRun4Life Kids Only 3K on Sunday May 21, 2023 in Doylestown. We will combine dynamic warm ups, relay races, endurance running and discussions about healthy nutrition. Running is not only healthy for your child’s physical health. Running can help improve mental health by reducing stress and anxiety, and improve mood and sleep. It is also a wonderful way to spend time with friends outdoors. The program is open to all 4th, 5th and 6th grade Goodnoe students. We will also need parent volunteers to help the program run smoothly. We will be sending out more information about the iRun4Life soon. If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Rothrock at srothrock@crsd.org.
SAVE THE DATE!
Our Summer Reading Kickoff, Buy-One-Get-One-Free Book Fair, will take place June 1st-June 8th. Most students will shop during their library time. Family Night is Monday, June 5th from 4-9. More information coming soon.
School Counselor's Corner
These days most children have access to an iPhone or an iPad, whether it is their own device or one belonging to their parents. However, this could lead to the children being exposed to inappropriate content, online predators, and inappropriate text messaging. Therefore, parents need to provide guidance and take precautions. The easiest way to keep track of your children and their phone usage is to monitor the device and text messages. We also strongly suggest disabling group messaging on your child’s phone or ipad, as many inappropriate conversations occur on this type of messaging, which quickly escalate into conflict and drama. If there are conversations that lead to highly inappropriate content or cyberbullying, your child can be held accountable for being part of the conversation.
Below are links to help you set up parental control for your child’s apple or android device.
ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL TIME
I would like to send a friendly reminder about arrival time to school which is 8:45 a.m. When children arrive earlier than that time, there may be no adults outside to supervise the children. Specifically, some students who walk to school are arriving prior to 8:45 a.m. and they are left alone with cars driving through the parking lot. Adhering to this arrival time helps to maintain safety. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
A Note from the School Nurse
This a reminder to all parents/guardians that elementary students are not able to self-carry ANY medication including cough drops among other over the counter cold/allergy remedies.
Please refer to the CRSD website/handbook which states:
Students MAY NOT CARRY any form of prescription or nonprescription “over-the-counter drugs” with them during school. This is a violation of District policy that will result in disciplinary action.
CRSD CELL PHONE/SMART WATCH POLICY
This is a reminder that all Electronic Devices are against our District Policy. Even if text/phone usage is disabled on these devices, many still have the capability of taking photos & accessing the internet, etc. As a result, they are not permitted to be worn during the school day. All electronic devices should be turned off and remain in backpacks if they are brought to school.
Excerpt from CRSD/GES Parent Handbook
The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during the school day or on the school bus (Section 1317.1 PA School Code). Students, who possess cell phones, must secure them in their backpacks/schoolbags throughout the school day, turned off, not silent or vibrate. This eliminates unnecessary interruptions to instruction.
Students may not use cell phones during lunch, recess or breaks. Cell phones are to remain off during the school day, including the school bus. In the event a student uses a cell phone (calling, texting, photographing or otherwise) or the phone rings, during the school day, the student will be asked to turn the cell phone off before releasing to staff. Following, the cell phone should be picked up by a parent/guardian/designated adult at their earliest convenience, in the main office during school hours. The Council Rock School District assumes no responsibility for cell phones or other electronic devices that are lost, stolen or broken.
SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
During the past few weeks, your child’s class has been reviewing the SW-PBIS (School Wide- Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) school expectations. The lessons included a class discussion, modeling and practicing of respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors in the locations listed on the school-wide matrix. Your child’s class also learned about the voice levels that are expected for the different locations. Please take some time to review the matrix and voice level chart with your child. Our school website has a SW-PBIS link with more specific information regarding the structure of Goodnoe’s School Wide Positive Interventions & Support system. Check out more information at the links below.
FAMILY TRIP FORMS
Click the following LINK for the form to be completed for Family Educational Trips. Handwritten letters are accepted, however this form is preferred. Please be sure to submit the form/letter at least ten (10) days prior to your trip, for approval. This can be sent to school with your child or emailed electronically to Mrs. Susan Bogucki at SBogucki@CRSD.org
DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children have pet allergies or are afraid of animals; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours. Please refer to our board policy for more information on animals in school policy 718 https://go.boarddocs.com/pa/coun/Board.nsf/vpublic?open#
