Dear Mize Families,
Greetings Mize Families,
I hope you all had an absolutely wonderful holiday weekend and were able to get outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. Our Mize Hawks love any opportunity to get out and enjoy the fresh air. With this week’s upcoming temperatures, you can rest assured that our classes will be taking a break from learning to spend some quality time outdoors.
This month not only brings about beautiful, spring weather, but a burst of energy as we work towards finishing the year strong. This month we begin state assessments in our third through fifth grade classrooms. Your child’s teacher will be sending communication about these assessments soon, if you haven’t already received information.
April also brings about our first virtual career day! Our counselor, Mrs. Lainee Graham, has been working hard gathering and organizing information regarding careers. We will provide more information, on this special event, in the upcoming weeks. A big heartfelt thank you to all of our families who took time to add career information to our database. This information will also provide our teachers career information as they plan lessons and units for our precious Mize Hawks. Thanks again for your dedication and partnership, as we provide real world relevance to learning.
Have a wonderful week, everyone, and take care!
Food Drive this week!
Our school will be participating in a food drive benefiting the De Soto Food Pantry during the week of April 5th-9th. Please send in canned food and non-perishable food items. There will be collection boxes located in the entry way of the building. Thank you so much for helping those in need in our community!
De Soto USD 232 KANSAS TEACHER OF THE YEAR PROGRAM
TO ALL STUDENTS AND PARENTS:
The De Soto School District has been an important and strong participant in the Kansas Teacher of the Year Program for many years. De Soto has had fifteen state finalists and twelve semi-finalists represented in the program since 2000. Two of our very own teachers were chosen as The Kansas Teacher of the Year; Keil Hileman in 2004 and Jeri Powers in 2008. This is truly unprecedented!
We would like for you to nominate any teacher whom you consider to be an outstanding and effective educator and whom you or your child has had as a teacher. This person must be a tenured employee of USD 232. If there is a De Soto educator whom you believe to be outstanding and deserving of special recognition, please fill out the nomination form at www.usd232.org/ktoy . This form needs to be completed by noon on April 16, 2021.
The Spring Book Fair is Almost Here!
We are excited to announce we are having a Book Fair! Because the safety and well-being of our students is our priority, our Fair will not be open to the public as we take precautions to host a safe, socially distanced fair. Hawks will shop during their scheduled Library time. More information to come!
On-site: April 26th thru May 18th
Online Fair: April 21st thru May 4th
