Canvas

Canvas is the Learning Management System adopted by LISD. It’s a way for your child to access all of their instructional needs and allows parents more visibility into classroom learning.

Click here to view a Google Slides presentation explaining Canvas. Be sure to view the presenter notes in the presentation for step-by-step setup instructions.

If you need any assistance with Canvas, please contact your child's assistant principal.

Check Out Procedure

If you need to check out your child early, please email our attendance clerk, Genaye Corzatt, that morning, if possible. Her email address is corzattg@lisd.net.

When you arrive at the school, you will need to ring the doorbell and show your driver's license to gain entry to the building. A mask is also required. It will take a few minutes for us to send for your child, so please plan accordingly if you are headed to an appointment.

**Please make sure that you have given pick-up permissions in Skyward to every person you intend to pick up your child, including emergency contacts. You can edit this information in the digital back-to-school forms.

iPads

  • The intended use of the district-issued iPad is for instructional purposes.

  • Students should bring their iPads to school every day fully charged so they have sufficient battery to use during the school day.

  • iPads should be used only as directed by teachers, not for gaming.

  • Be empowered to set boundaries and rules for your child's use of his/her iPad. If you need assistance setting parental controls, please contact your child's assistant principal. We can help!

Click here for information related to iPad support or damaged/lost iPads.

Item Drop Off (Including Lunches)

Due to COVID, we are not accepting deliveries at this time. Please do not drop off lunches, iPads, school supplies, etc. Students who do not have a lunch just need to let their assistant principal or counselor know, and we will make sure they are fed.

We realize this is a major change and an inconvenience, and we greatly appreciate your cooperation.

PE & Athletics

  • At this time, students will not be changing clothes for PE, so it's suggested that they wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothing that is appropriate for exercise to school. Please make sure your child wears deodorant. Students can also keep some in their backpacks. Students are not allowed to bring glass water bottles.

If you have PE questions please reach out to Coach May, mayj@lisd.net

  • For all students taking Athletics (7th/8th grade only), the coaches will communicate with students and parents regarding Athletics dress expectations.

If you have questions please reach out to the Athletic Coordinators.

PTA

PTA plays an active yet supportive role at HFMS. Our PTA works closely with teachers, students, administrators and the community to positively impact the success of the school. You’ll find that PTA is very different from elementary school. We typically host one event per month to bring everyone together from community events, student events and school events. We support our teachers by providing workroom supplies, host a student nominated Teacher of the Month program, provide grants, monthly Teacher Appreciation events and more! We would love to have you join to become a member! You can join by visiting www.joinpta.org

If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Knibbs, PTA President at HuffinesMSPTA@gmail.com.

Skyward (Gradebook)

Please contact your child's assistant principal if you need assistance filling out the back-to-school forms in Skyward. The assistant principals can also help you set up notifications in Skyward.

Please contact our attendance clerk, Genaye Corzatt, if you need assistance with your Skyward username/password. She can be reached by email at corzattg@lisd.net or by phone at 469-713-5990.

It is never too early to check on your student’s vaccination status! Please get those Texas mandatory vaccinations for 7th grade taken care of and don’t wait until last minute this summer. Even if your student is already up-to-date, the nurse may not have record of it.

Here are the vaccinations that are REQUIRED FOR ENTRY into the 7th grade:

TDAP booster (must be given within the last 5 years)

Meningococcal (MCV4)

You can have these records faxed to Nurse Young at 972-350-9199 or scan/email them to her. Any questions? You can reach Nurse Young at youngta@lisd.net or at 469-713-5990.
