Computer Lab - Technology
My expectations will be that when I come into your room and your students are on Moby Max - I will expect you have Real Time up for monitoring purposes. If you cannot do this - please let me know why! Where there is a will there is a way!!!
Non-Negotiables
1. DLT (all 5 components)
2. Deep Planning
3. Assessment Matrices - Math, S.S., Writing, Science
4. Computer Lab - Writing (1-2nd grade working on building technology skills - shoot for writing in the lab 1-2 times per week, 3-4 days for 3rd grade, 4th and 5th grade writing in the lab daily)

6. Weekly Assessments - Wonders - on the computers
"Train teachers to call only on students who raise their hands and to build on correct responses to maintain a brisk classroom pase. This would enhance the self-confidence of already profienct students and minimize class participation and engagment among those hwo enter with lower proficiency."
Tasks needing your attention:
shared with you.
2. Update - your grade level's Sunset Data Worksheet - MUST BE DONE by Monday, November 27th - I have filled in a few - so I could test my login - however, missing student tests - please check this and share your plan with Hafey how you will be making these assessments up
3. Using the Wonders dashboard - view your dashboard and skills/trends needing your attention and re-teach time
4. Email Hafey - what week in Unit 2 you are currently in starting Monday!
5. Updated Schedules (I only have updated schedules for Beaver/Jones, and Zimmerman)!
6. Let Hafey know of your next Wonders Weekly Assessment administration date - I'd like to come in and observe this process
Daily Learning Targets
1. POST them (keep them up to date - this is their road map)
2. UNPACK them - so they become alive and understood - not just mumble jumble on the board!
3. Give the WHY behind them - if it is only "Because I said" - SHAME ON YOU.....make it practical, give them a reason to WANT to learn the concept...
4. BRING IT BACK...BRING IT BACK
5. ASSESS THEM - how do you go forward if you don't know if they have it?
THESE are a NON-NEGOTIABLE!!!
I Expect to see/hear this when I come in!
Learning Walks will include this as Look Fors!!!
Teacher Talk vs Student Talk....Think about it....
REQUIRE frequent student responses...Students increase achievement when they activitely participate in their learning. The teacher MUST elicit student responses several times per minute...
Repetition...Repetition...Repetition...Repetition
Gifted/Talented Learners 1-4 Repetitions
Average Learners 4-14 Repetitions
Struggling Learners 14 to 40 Repetitions
Disabled Learners 40 to 200 and up!
Don't Give Up...Have Faith...Persevere...SISU
Some Simple Reminders that are too Often Forgotten...
1. Losing our temper makes student behavior worse.
2. Confronting rebellious students gives them an audience to be more rebellious.
3. Being disorganized breeds chaotic classrooms.
4. The unhappier a teacher is, the unhappier the students are.
5. The longer we talk, the more students we lose.
Think about it!
Calling on students with their hands raised should be a last resort...
ENGAGEMENT...
The top 10 Look For's that teachers do to increase student engagement:
1. Content and Substance
2. Organization of Knowledge
3. Product Focus
4. Clear and Compelling Standards (knowing exactly what is expected of them...)
5. Protection from Adverse Consequences
6. Affirmation of Performance (letting students know their work is important)
7. Affiliation (opportunities for students to work interdependently with others)
8. Novelty and Variety
9. Choice
10. Authenticity
Systematic Supervision
If you have questions, please come see me!

Look Fors: Evidence of Deep Planning, the 5 Components of Targets, and Engagement Strategies
What Observers Do:
1. Look for focus best practices
2. Look for other effective techniques and strategies
3. Reflect on best practices; how to incorporate them into our classrooms
What Observers Don't Do:
1. Make judgements about what the Observed Teacher was or was not doing
2. Be critical of teacher, the student or classroom
After each Observation - the team will return to Hafey's office and share out:
1. What did we see - related to focus
2. What insights do we have to take back to our own classrooms
