This is my garden
I'll plant it with care.
Here are the seeds,
I'll plant in there.
The sun will shine.
The rain will fall.
The seeds will sprout,
and grow up tall!
Writing
KA does writing outside at Metro-Tech!
This is a special time for KA, as we are alone outside until recess begins and KB and the upperclassman join us.
IB
Growth
Plants-
We have been studying the life cycle of a plant! Students have been practicing identifying the parts of a plant as well. This week we planted our Kidney Beans! They were in our baggies on the window sill and the roots were getting too big. (Big Shout out to Seema Aghera for bringing in plastic cups so that all of the students in our class could plant their seeds!) We are still in need of plastic recyclable containers to plant our kitchen sink garden--if you have any at home please send them in.
Tadpoles-
We are studying the life cycle of a frog as well. We received two tadpoles, Frank and Cutie. We were deeply saddened when Cutie passed away this week. On the other hand, Frank has begun to grow legs!
Students are journaling their observations about the kidney beans and tadpoles in their growth journals!
Math
During Number Stories we continue to work on answering addition and subtraction stories using a number sentence, number bond, and picture. Students are being given higher numbers, and more complicated language to challenge them.
Reading
In Read-Aloud, students have been listening to stories like The Gruffalo, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and Sylvia. Students are sequencing these stories into beginning, middle and end. They are asked to summarize and retell. In Phonics, students are building fluency with word families, and vowel challenges.
