What is identity theft?
The fraudulent acquisition and use of a person's private identifying information, usually for financial gain.
How to prevent it?
- Choose good passwords and PINs
- Protect your computer
- Beware of scams
- Don't accidentally on-sell or give away your identity details
- Try and use credit cards if possible
- When shopping online, be careful giving websites information
What to do if your identity has ALREADY been stolen:
Step 1: File a police report and alert the proper authorities to ensure all necessary steps are taken to limit your liability.
Step 2: Alert your credit card issuers and tell your bank
Step 3: Cancel stolen cards
