Roynon Raccoon Report
June Newsletter All About Roynon
A Message from Roynon's Principal
The 2017-2018 academic school year is coming to an end. I would like to take this time to thank everyone who has made a difference in the life of a Roynon Raccoon this year. It is our hope that you can look back on this year as a positive year of personal growth and academic success for your child.
We are proud to announce that Roynon has been recognized as a 2017 - 2018 Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll School for its high achievement and student success. The program, sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes. Roynon is one of 1,798 public schools in California to be recognized, and one of two elementary schools in BUSD, the other being Shull Elementary. Schools that receive the ERP Honor Roll distinction have demonstrated consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time, and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations. We are very proud of this well deserved recognition, which would not be possible without the dedicated Roynon staff, the hard work of our students, and the incredible support we receive from our Roynon community, which includes YOU!
Enjoy the next ten weeks with your family. Summer time gives everyone a chance to recharge. We encourage you to take some time to unplug as a family and spend time getting to know each other again, void of alarm clocks and school bells.
Although summer is a wonderful time of year that creates long lasting family memories, it is also a time that the SUMMER SLIDE occurs. Studies have shown that students who do not read during the summer can lose up to two months of reading performance, as compared to students who continue to read during these ten weeks. In this newsletter, I have provided some information regarding the Summer Slide as well as some opportunities and challenges to help prevent the Summer Slide. I encourage you to take advantage of our Bonita Unified School District Summer Library Program and online resources that are available in both reading and math for your student this summer.
As part of our BUSD Summer Library Program, students can go to any of the schools listed on the dates they are open, to check out books and take AR quizzes. Books can be returned to any open library and they will be sorted by the district and make their way back to the school they belong to. Students may check out up to 3 books per school, with a maximum of 5. The schedule is pictured below.
Happy Summer and Happy Reading!
PS - Don't forget to SNAP & SHARE your reading experiences with me this summer. (See below for more info.)
