Thank you!!
The need is especially great since we've helped Walker High School start a food pantry on-site for their students.
Also, we are grateful to all those who volunteered in our parish garden. Under the leadership of Monteze Curry, it really flourished this year. Monteze also grew pumpkins and put together pumpkin pie kits for our food bank families. Amazing!!
Thanksgiving Meal Donations
Each year, All Saints Delivery Food Bank prepares special Thanksgiving meal baskets for our clients. Last year we provided 108 families with canned foods, gravy, instant potatoes, a frozen turkey, dessert and rolls.
To help cover the cost of our poultry purchase, we will be accepting monetary donations until November 18. Please look for the special display in the vestibule with donation envelopes.
Thank you for your support!

Giving Tree Helpers
We are looking for volunteers to help with the Giving Tree this year. We need people to help make labels, coordinate the wrapping party, and deliver gifts to the recipients. Contact Morningstar in the parish office for more information.

PREPARES
October is Respect Life Month, a time to build a culture of life, pray for the unborn, and serve mothers and families in need. Learn about accompanying and serving families in need through the Pregnancy and Parenting Support (PREPARES) program. PREPARES is a nurturing response of the Catholic community in Washington state providing meaningful, local and sustainable support to mothers, fathers, and families as they nurture their children through pregnancy and early childhood. All Saints currently partners with PREPARES to distribute diapers through our delivery food bank. We are also always looking to train mentors who can walk alongside families with young children. Contact Morningstar in the parish office for more information.
Family Service Day
On Saturday, October 8, 16 families from our school and parish communities participated in our Fall Service Day. Thanks to their help, we cleaned up our ELC playground, picked up litter, weeded our Mary garden, winterized our parish garden, and repacked diapers for PREPARES. It was a beautiful morning spent caring for God's creation!
That same morning, Fr. Val and a few other volunteers served at L'Arche Tahoma Hope Community last Saturday in the dahlia garden.
Save the Date for our next service day at L'Arche on Nov 12 for families and high school youth!
Combating Throwaway Culture
Throwaway culture is defined as a widespread mentality that treats everything as disposable, replaceable, and temporary. Throughout Laudato Si’, Pope Francis links the degradation of the environment to the treatment of the most vulnerable in society, especially those who struggle in poverty. The Holy Father writes that “the earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth” (no. 21). This decay has occurred, he writes, because of a developing “throwaway culture” in society (no. 22). Items that have outlived their usefulness are discarded, rather than being reused or recycled. Pope Francis initially cites this concept in relation to pollution, over consumption, and waste that have harmed the environment and the health of individuals. However, he also points out that the throwaway culture “affects the excluded [person] just as it quickly reduces things to rubbish” (no. 21).
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
What lifestyle changes can we make to combat the throwaway culture?

One Parish One Prisoner
We will continue to offer friendship and support to Jacob as he makes this transition. Please continue to keep him (and our OPOP team) in your prayers.
Fieldstone Memory Care Communion Service
Fieldstone Memory Care would like to host a communion service for their Catholic residents. Would you be interested in helping with this ministry? Guidance will be provided. Experience as a Eucharistic Minister is a bonus. Contact Morningstar in the parish office for more information.

Take Action
If we fail to take action on climate change, are we truly loving our neighbors who are most affected by it? As people of faith, we must step up on behalf of our sisters and brothers and the common home we share. Ask Congress to address the impacts and root causes of climate change by investing in the Green Climate Fund.
