Underclass Awards Program - New information!

The Underclass Awards Program will take place in a different location other than what was stated in the letter. Our new location will be William Garrett Gymnasium on Wednesday, May 5th at 7 PM. There is no longer a limit of 4 guests per student due to this venue change. Doors will open at 6:35 PM and students should be seated in the reserved section by 6:55 PM. Students should wear business attire, no jeans, shorts or t-shirts. SHS Yearbook staff will be available to take student pictures in front of a backdrop at the South end bleachers either before the program, or after the awards program has ended as time permits. Also, our counseling office will be conducting an informal informational session for sophomore and junior parents regarding the college application and scholarship processes at 6:00 PM in the gym prior to the awards program. This session will cover key calendar dates, how to search for colleges and scholarships, the college admissions process and how to request a transcript. We hope to see you there!

It is hard to believe that June 5, 2021 is fast approaching and all these years of hard work is about to pay off with a high school diploma. The purpose of this letter is to give you information that will help you plan in the weeks ahead.

The students who work in our television studio have produced a senior video with pictures provided by the current seniors. This video will be played at the Senior Luncheon on May 20th. In addition to the senior DVD, the television studio will record the graduation ceremony. Both the senior DVD and the graduation ceremony DVD may be ordered either before or after the graduation ceremony on June 5th. There will be a table located inside the gates at J. M. McKeand Stadium the day of graduation for you to place either of those orders.

Caps and gowns for seniors have been ordered and delivered to students who previously placed an order. If your student does not have a cap and gown yet, please contact Jostens sales representative, Mike Long, at 317-736-9114 to order one. Please be aware that all students will be wearing black caps and gowns.

Versiti Blood Center of Indiana is issuing an Emergency Appeal for Blood Donations.

Donations have dropped recently; falling short due to increased cancellations and spring break trips. Additionally, as more people are getting vaccinated and out of their homes, attention has shifted away from blood donation. This means our communities are facing a potential crisis and blood donations are needed immediately.

If a patient requires a transplant or trauma incidents occur, we must be able to respond quickly. Unfortunately, we are currently at less than a half day's supply of blood. Patients in our community rely on the generosity of blood donors to maintain an adequate blood supply.

ALL of our local and mobile blood drives are critical in the coming weeks to help us restore and sustain our community blood supply. As you likely know, each donor has the power to save three lives.

To that end, we are kindly and urgently asking for your help at Shelbyville High School's Blood Drive on Thursday May 13th.

  • Please make an appointment today Each donation is vitally important!
  • Additionally, please consider asking your family, friends and colleagues to donate blood with you at this drive to help us reach out goal of at least 15 donations.

Thank you for all you are doing to help save lives!

Please be AWARE because kids are EVERYWHERE.

Please be aware that with the warmer weather, students are walking home from school more and are more likely to not be paying attention while walking or at a school bus stop. Many of our students who ride school buses need to cross the road to travel from their bus stop to their homes. Please pay attention whenever you see a school bus as they are carrying sons, daughters, and grandchildren onboard.

Passing a stopped school bus with the stop arm extended is a violation of Indiana law and can carry a felony charge if convicted. Indiana law required traffic in both directions to stop for an extended stop arm unless there is a physical barrier or unpaved median between the travel lanes.

Shelbyville Central Schools is working closely with the Shelbyville Police Department to ensure the safety of your students.
