BMS March Media Newsletter

Pamela J. Baker, Media Coordinator

NCTIES

Wednesday, March 2nd - Friday, March 4th, I attended the annual NCTIES conference in Raleigh. It was an awesome conference focusing on ways to use digital learning in the classroom. I learned new tools and techniques that I will be sharing with you through newsletters, e-mails, Professonial Development and individual collaboration.

BOB Mock Competition

Thursday, March 10th, the BMS Battle of the Book Club participated in a mock competition with Virgo Prep Middle School in Wilmington NC. This competition was done through Google Hangouts, which is a great tool you can use in your curriculum. Google Hangouts is a unified communications service that allows members to initiate and participate in text, voice or video chats, either one-on-one or in a group. It is a great way to enhance your curriculum beyond your classroom walls. See me if you are interested in using this tool.

More BOB Competitions

Friday, March 11th, the students were involved in an in house competition. This mocked event gave selected Bertie County School personnel an opportunity to practice their roles in a competitive environment since the local elementary competition was Thursday, March 17th. The schools that participated were Colerain, West Bertie and Windsor. The winner was Colerain and those students will advance to the regional competition in April.

We will be hosting the Regional Middle School Battle of the Books competition Tuesday, April 12th at the BHS auditorium. Wish our students luck as they read, study and prepare for this extremely competitive event.

March Madness

Not just on the court........but in the Media Center as well. Books were on display to encourage reading and learning about the game of basketball, different team strategies and techniques as well as how math and technology fit into the game.

"Irish" I Had More Time to Read

The Media Center was decorated in green to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Books with green covers were put on display while tables had green center pieces and even a rainbow with a pot of gold. Today is your Lucky Day! If students found a 4 leaf clover in their library books, they brought the clover to the media personnel. This clover allowed them to be entered into a drawing for a free book and candy. The winners were:

Brittney Goff

Timothy Thompson

Trinity Byrum

Yasmonasia Boone
