Fairfield Elementary School Update
March 10, 2021
Kindness Week was a great success! Our goal is to be kind every day.
Little Caesars Pizza Kits
Please come to the gym doors located at the far south end of the building near the bus loop parking (please do not park in the bus loop until after 3:45pm if picking up). Do not go to the main entrance of the school or ring the bell please. Go directly to the outside gym entrance. You will see a table set up outside and your order will be brought to the table for contactless pick up.
All kits must be picked up on Thursday. Thank you!
Kindergarten Registration
Welcome to Kindergarten in Limestone. This is an exciting time for both you and your student. Kindergarten is a wonderful experience and your student’s next phase on their journey of learning.
Kindergarten programs in Ontario offer a full day of learning for four- and five-year-olds. Our Kindergarten program aims to nurture the whole child. In Kindergarten classrooms, a teacher and an early childhood educator work together as a team. This partnership helps to create a nurturing learning environment; giving every student the opportunity to learn in the way that is best suited to their individual strengths and needs.
We recognize this year has been different due to COVID-19, and we have learned a great deal from our experiences these past months. We are proud of the way our students and staff have responded to these challenges, and we continue to work closely with our partners at KFL&A Public Health to ensure health and safety protocols are in place and appropriate. The health and safety of students and staff is our priority.
You can feel confident your student will be cared for within safe and inclusive environments.
Fairfield Elementary School is ready to welcome your student to a wonderful new world of learning and growing. We very much look forward to meeting you and supporting you as you become part of the Limestone community.
If your student is 4 or 5 by the end of December, now is the time to register.

Limestone Seeks Input About Budget Process
The Limestone District School Board of Trustees is seeking feedback on the development of its 2021-2022 budget.
School boards set an operating budget (revenues and expenses) and a capital budget (money for buying or maintaining fixed assets such as buildings, and equipment) for each school year. School board funding is determined for the most part through a provincial funding formula based on student enrolment. Funding for classroom teachers, learning materials, classroom supplies and technology, for example, is allocated on a per student basis. Some funding, often referred to as “enveloped” funding must be used for specific purposes such as special education, student achievement and capital or infrastructure needs. School boards must submit a balanced budget to the Ministry of Education.
Limestone’s 2020-2021 Budget will form the basis for the 2021-2022 Budget.
Limestone students, families, staff, and community partners are invited to participate in a brief survey to identify priorities for the equitable, successful, and fiscally responsible use of LDSB’s finite financial resources. As in previous years, all committees of the Board will also have an opportunity to identify and discuss budget issues where applicable.
The survey, which is anonymous, will be open until 4 p.m., March 19, 2021.
Budget Chair Tom Gingrich hopes stakeholders will take the opportunity to provide their input on priority areas for next year. “The Board’s goal is always to direct as many resources as possible to support student achievement and well-being,” says Trustee Gingrich. “It’s important for us to know the priorities of students, families, staff and the community so that we can make informed responsible decisions, especially given ongoing constraints and pressures related to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
All this information will assist the Board of Trustees throughout the budgeting process to ensure students’ needs are best served in 2021-2022. Information collected will be summarized and reviewed at the Budget Committee meeting on April 21, 2021.

Parking Lot Concerns
We have many students who are driven to school and picked up each day. The parking lot is a busy place and we are kindly requesting that vehicles drive slowly in the parking lot. There have been a few "near misses" where cars are travelling too quickly.
As well, please be courteous to pedestrians who are walking and who cross at the entrance of the parking lot and across Kildare Avenue. Pedestrians should have the right of way.
A huge thanks to Loyalist Township for providing a crossing guard at Kildare & Manitou and at Kildare and Green.
Thank you for slowing down and helping to keep our students safe!

Safe Arrival - Reporting Student Absences
There are three options to use to report a student absence:
- Call the automated attendance phone line at 1-855-257-9349 Please note: Always enter "lates" as a full day even if the child will only be absent for half a day. When the student arrives at school, the office will adjust that absent to a late in the system
- Use the SchoolMessenger App on your phone
- Use the SchoolMessenger website portal
For more information on how to report an absence please click on the link below.
Recess
Boots, hats and mitts (when cold) ensure a more comfortable recess break. We go outside rain or shine and in cold weather. Please note that now that the weather is warming up and we anticipate rainy days, students will be welcomed into the school at 8:55am. There is no indoor supervision before school starts. As well, in the event of rain we will go outside for recess.
