Guest Speaker for Parents - "The Well Balanced Student"
Margaret Dunlap from the Challenge Success program will be here at Beckman High School on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 6:00 pm in our Performing Arts Center. She will be presenting a workshop created by Dr. Denise Pope and the Challenge Success program called "The Well Balanced Student." During the presentation, TUSD high school parents will learn research-based strategies for raising healthy teenagers in today’s faced-paced world. Parents will also receive information and tips on they can establish a healthier home environment, reduce academic stress with sacrificing achievement, and increase the teenager’s resilience, creativity and well-being.Take a look at a video explaining the workshop below.
Longer Passing Period Trial in January
One of the ideas that has come out of various discussions surrounding the Challenge Success program is modifying our bell schedule to accommodate . One of the first modifications we will try is extending the time between classes from 5 to 10 minutes. The thought is that the additional time between classes would allow for a slower pace to the day, more time for teacher-student interactions before and after class, time to transition between classes for both students and teachers, and potentially the ability to use the restroom at a time other than break or lunch. As a result of multiple discussions with schools who have tried this and discussions internally, we have determined that we will try a version of the schedule the week of January 21st (it’s a 4 day week). At the conclusion of the week, we will survey the students and staff to determine whether this is something we look to implement in the future. An image of the schedule trial is below. Please note that start and end times will not change.

Let's "TACO-bout" being Seniors...
ASB celebrates seniors with a playful pun and a few free tacos for seniors as they prepare for their last round of winter finals.
Additional Graduation Tickets - FYI
This message is for planning purposes. Due to the size of the graduating class and the capacity restrictions at the stadium seniors will be receiving 4 graduation tickets. If you are in need of tickets beyond the four issued per student, we will be passing out additional graduation tickets on May 30th beginning at 7:00 am. The line will start at the front gate. Tickets are limited, so we will only pass out a single ticket to for each ADULT in line until we no longer have any tickets. If you require 4 additional tickets, you will need to ensure that 4 adults are in line. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Last Day to Request a Course Change
District policy states that students wishing to make a course change have until the fourth Friday of the semester to request the change. This year, the last date to make such a request falls on February 1st. Keep in mind that changes can only be made if space permits. Also, we will not grant teacher change requests. Students wishing to make a change will need to pick up an Add/Drop form in the counseling office
