Volunteer Update
Those of you waiting on fingerprints to extend your clearance can volunteer in the classroom while waiting for the fingerprints to clear through our District.
Conferences
It's also a great time for you to ask questions or talk about any learning-related concerns. Input in the following areas would be helpful:
- What does your child say about school?
- What are your child's special interests/out-of-school activities?
- Does your child have regular responsibilities at home?
- Is there anything else we should be aware of that may affect your child's performance in school?
Creating a partnership with your child's teacher around your child's learning can make a big difference. Within the next week, your child's teacher will be reaching out to you to schedule a conference. You will have the option of in-person, a phone call, or a virtual meeting. Please make every effort to arrive at your scheduled time.
Conferences will be scheduled between 1:45 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. from October 10-21. Please refer to the Modified Bell Schedule posted above.
CWA Report
The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a federal law that protects the educational rights of students experiencing homelessness. It defines “homeless children and youth” as any student who lacks a “fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.” That includes students who are sharing the housing of others due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason; living in motels, hotels, cars, trailer parks, emergency shelters or transitional housing. This definition includes migrant children who are staying in these situations, as well as refugees/ new arrivals and unaccompanied youth.
TIP: Know the signs and be familiar with common characteristics of students experiencing homelessness, including:
● Enrollment at multiple schools, lack of records, gaps in learning, poor/inconsistent attendance.
● Poor hygiene, unmet medical/dental needs, wearing the same clothes repeatedly, fatigue.
● Social and behavioral challenges; such as extreme shyness, withdrawal, difficulty making friends or aggression.
Marvelous Mrs. Meek's Message
Attention spider lovers! The Livermore Public Library is hosting a FREE event all about Tarantulas, presented by the East Bay Regional Park District. A naturalist with EBRPD will lead a short discussion where attendees will learn about tarantulas and have the opportunity to view and touch live specimens.
While the event is free, space is limited so registration is required. View the attached flyer for more information and to learn how to register!
The Wheelchair Foundation
Worldwide, there are an estimated 100 million people with physical disabilities who are in need of a wheelchair. Three million of these are children and 90% of them are unable to go to school.
In 2000, Ken Behring, a Danville resident and former owner of the Seattle Seahawks, started the Wheelchair Foundation. The goal is to provide a new wheelchair to every child, teen, and adult in the world that needs one but cannot afford one. To date, more than 1,100,000 wheelchairs have been delivered to 156 countries.
Next week, the foundation will provide us with 10 wheelchairs. We will use this opportunity to give students a small glimpse into what life is like when confined to a wheelchair. Teachers will be taking their classes to an 'obstacle course' of sorts. They will be asked to get themselves from one station to the next carrying objects such as a backpack, playground ball, and papers while maneuvering between desks, up slight inclines, and across the grass.
Should you choose to donate to this cause, you can do so through this link or your child can bring in loose change to add to the small donation banks in the classroom.
Abilities Awareness Week
In order to make this happen, we need your help. We are looking for parent volunteers who will supervise a station as students rotate through.

Universal Free Lunch
"Our Child Nutrition Department is excited to share that all students, regardless of family income, can receive a daily school lunch free of charge for all instructional days in the 2021-22 school year! While a free and reduced lunch application does not apply this year, completing the Alternate Income Form can result in students qualifying for additional benefits such as Pandemic EBT, scholarships for placement exams, and discounted internet service."
