Building Happenings
The Colors of the Rainbow
In Ms. Pettit's Drawing and Painting class, students are learning about painting with watercolors. They started the project by choosing a theme and drawing it. Once their drawing was complete, they began painting it with water based paint. This allowed students to experiment with the paints to create new colors for their drawing but also understand how to create different shades of color to show depth.

Upcoming Bond Information
We have exciting news for all GSD Community!
This summer, the Gibraltar School District Board of Education has approved placing a no tax-rate increase bond proposal on the November 7th ballot. Voter approval of the bond proposal will not increase residents' current tax rate.
The $81.5 million no-tax-rate increase bond proposal is designed to improve the learning environment and update the interior and exterior of school buildings.
The bond proposal will allow the school district to make improvements in five key areas:
1. enhancing elementary educational programming;
2. enhancing student safety and security;
3. improving the learning environment;
4. expanding arts, athletics, and play areas; and,
5. addressing aging facility infrastructure and increasing building efficiencies.

PSAT Fall Testing
Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 will be taking the PSAT NMSQT on October 26th. This is an important test that allows students to potentially earn scholarships. Beyond getting a baseline for their performance on the test in the spring, this test that will be offered digitally for the first time for all grades. Having students participate now will allow us to determine what needs we have building wide to ensure the test in the spring runs smoothly and it will allow us to identify what supports students might need.
A few quick (and important) things:
1.) Tests start on time - it's extremely important that students plan to get to school on time this day (regardless of an online class or not)
2.) Students need a valid ID for admittance to the test
3.) Students should have a charged chromebook and their chromebook charger in order to take the test. Those who don't have it will NOT be able to take the test.
4.) Students will do all preparation for this in their English classes next week.
5.) Seniors should be scheduling career and college visits for this day if they are not planning to work as scheduled with counselors on post-secondary planning in the cafeteria.
Approaching End of First Quarter
Check & Connect
After establishing this habit of checking grades at least weekly, if you're not liking what you're seeing, start a conversation about how credit can be earned and/or a specific grade can be achieved
The best place to start the conversation is with our teachers. They spend the most amount of time with the students in their classes and would have the best idea about how success can be achieved.

Nolan Pizzo
Nolan is a senior at CHS. He joined our CHS family this fall from SMCC in Monroe. Nolan has quickly gotten involved in school activities and challenging academic classes. Despite not being allowed to play in games due to transfer rules, Nolan practices every day and is an integral part of our football team's successes this year. We are so happy to welcome him to CHS for his senior year.
Anika Irwin
Ankia is a senior leader who is in our dual enrollment college program, earning college credits while she is still at CHS. While maintaining a challenging academic load, she also found the time to lead our girls golf team to another state finals appearance this year!
Staff
Our staff is second to none from our faculty to our secretaries to our cafeteria, custodians, and other support staff. They are just another reason we are lucky to be a part of Marauder Country!
Mr. Brockington
Mr. Brockington, the Maestro, leaves an impact wherever he goes. Not only does he direct the CHS Marching band, the best band in the land, who he has led to countless successes this season, he also directs our middle and high school bands and directs both theater productions throughout the year. His schedule is incredibly full, and yet, each student still feels like his number one priority, and the impact that he has had on their lives lasts a lifetime. Thank you for bringing the magic and joy of music and performance to our students, Brock - you are appreciated!
