Big picture

If you have driven by the high school during the past week, there is evidence that the start of the school year is right around the corner. Finishing touches are being completed on summer construction and maintenance projects, the athletic fields and courts are full of student-athletes preparing for their seasons, and the marching band can be overheard each afternoon preparing for their halftime show. As we enter the last weekend before the school year begins, we wanted to make you aware of the special assembly schedule we will be running on the first day of school.

The schedule will help us facilitate two assemblies on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

The morning assembly will be short, during this time we will distribute new ID Cards and lanyards for the 2019-2020 school year, introduce the new food service program, and highlight a few procedural adjustments for this year. Again this year, students in high school grades 9-12 will be asked to scan on and off the bus each day using their ID Card and school-issued lanyard. High School students will also be required to scan their ID Card when entering BHS and wear the school-issued ID/lanyard throughout the school day.

As for the afternoon, students will move to the stadium for an all school assembly. The theme of the assembly is building community. During the assembly, we will highlight upcoming activities and events and introduce teams captains and student leadership.

Finally, please save the date for our “Stars under the Stars” event. Barrington 220 is excited to partner with the Barrington 220 Educational Foundation to celebrate the start of the 2019-20 school year with a back to school movie night at BHS! Barrington 220: To Infinity and Beyond! will feature a showing of "Toy Story" on the big screen at Barrington Community Stadium. Admission is FREE and refreshments will be available for purchase. The event will take place on Friday, August 23, 2019. The movie will begin at 8:30 pm, after the Red and White scrimmage. All families are welcome.

Changes to Advanced Placement (AP) Testing

College Board is making changes to the Advanced Placement (AP) testing in the 2019/20 school year. Students must decide about taking AP Exams in the fall. This is a change from early spring registration so that the AP coordinator can submit the school’s exam order by the preferred October 2019 deadline. If a student chooses to cancel an exam after November 15, 2019 or does not take an exam that was ordered for them, there will be a $50 fee.

To help students be successful in their AP classes, new resources are available for students. New digital tools that provide daily support for every AP course, will give personalized feedback to students. Their teachers will be able to track their performance throughout the year using an online bank of real AP practice questions and monthly personal progress checks.

Students may enter the building at the west, east, greenhouse and front entrances. Seniors who have purchased a parking sticker, can enter at the senior locker bank and field of dreams entrances. All entrances will be locked after the first bell at 8:30 am. Students arriving late, must enter at the front of the building.

Only Seniors who have purchased a parking sticker can park in the high school lots, please make sure to follow the parking rotations.

PLEASE NOTE: We have been notified by the Barrington Jewel-Osco that they are partnering with the Barrington Police Department to ensure that their parking lot is used for only short term parking for patrons of the Jewel and surrounding establishments.
